Car advice
I'm looking around for a car (used) and wanted to draw on the collective knowledge of LFSers

I've been looking into the Nissan Primera 2.0 GT (96-99) and it seems pretty good on paper. 34 MPG, 0-60 8.5s and only insurance group 9! If there are any owners here, please let me know what you think of the car.

I'm really trying to find something fairly economical, relatively cheap insurance yet is suited to motorway driving. Suggestions welcome.

Never owned one personally, but a friend had one. Great cars, go well and handle really nicely too, won't be the fairly economical motor you're looking for though. 34MPG is probably combined, in town you'll do well to get close to that, fine for motorway hacking though. Good choice, you'll enjoy it if you get a goodun.
Friend of mine has the Nissan Sunny GTi with the same engine, the SR20DE. Pretty good if you ask me, nice torque..but not too much high end power. Very reliable..no problems so far..but hey it's Japanese
Suspension wise..they are pretty good but expect it to have worn bushes..especially on the anti roll bar linkages.

Not so sure if it's economical though..but that comes down to how you drive it I guess..

I'm not sure if it's sold in the UK but another car in this class is the Toyota Carina GTi..also 2ltr engine..extremely reliable and comfy.. (for it's price..duh)
Or you could be a typical kinda guy and buy a vauxhall nova 1.2 - Capable of chugging along at 70mph

o__O;
Id recommend a Clio RS, from year 2000, 170 HP, 8 liters to 100 km's, nice handling, I road tested one of theese recently, and fell in love, now im looking for one to byu
Any of the common rail diesels will do you fairly nicely, if you can put up with the diesel costs and even if you drive like a moron you can get about 43MPG average out of a decent 1.6-2.0L engine.

You do have to change gear a lot though.
