When its starting up hold F4(I think or it might be F1) to bring you into the menu to select safe mode.

when i had to start my machine in safe mode, i had to press F2, but whether it varys for different machines, idk.

Oh well if you dislike black, you have two choices:

1. Join a racist group.

2. Paint the screen white.

Much quicker, both of my methods. I suggest the second one though.
