Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :to some extend yes, but Far Cry at highest details 1600x1200 is a 'fairly modern' game, running at higher framerates than TDU does in 640x480. TDU is more shader intensive but the performance seems just not optimized.

Far Cry is literally 3 years old.

But yer I highly agree TDU is not optimised well at all.
So basicly, you cant use a wheel with TDU unless you want to get 1 FPS?

I guess im gonna have to sell it
Damn , i traded it on on 360 to get it on pc to get this
Well, my computer is way below the computer requirements as far as processor speed, and video card.

I brought it back to the store to see if i could return it, and they said i could pick out a different computer game and exchange it. Only thing i saw that i liked was NFS carbon :sadbanana

Hopefully this hardcore racing sim wont be TOO bad? The mountain (canyon, actualy) roads dont look to bad.

Ill let you know how bad, or how good it is.

no, it means in SOME cases you can't - ie i cant have a joystick plugged in - you might be unlucky and get the bug, but its not as likely as it working - best check with the place you buy it from first if they'll let you take it bakc
For people with MS Sidewinder FF wheels there's a workaround : http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=574728
It's actually a registry hack to force the FF off. It's ridiculous that this needs to be done to get a very common steering wheel to work in a racing game, but yeah... it does work and without the incredible loss of FPS.
Otherwise you have to wait for a patch I guess.
you know what sucks ass? I got TDU, my dads laptop is better than my regular computer so i installed it on that and it still doesn't work. That means i got to wait like 6 months till my parents get me a new computer, and i got the game sitting right here, all ready to play

i am so f'in pissed now.
Well Rappa Z, what you mean by " dont work". Doesen't your game work at all or it runs bad?

If it runs bad, what is your and your dad computer specs, or if it doesent work at all, does it give some error message or something?
Apparently, the only thing that my dads laptop doesn't meet on the specs list is the processor requirment. Every time i start the game it shuts itself down.
What cpu is it? And graphics chip?
woot last post here about 3 weeks back...what happend?
i still want to play TDU.
as i posted quite a while ago i did order it, but it never arrived.
good thing amazon does have a cash back thingie.
now i did order it again from a different seller (more expensive ) and lets see if i get it this time....
damn i could have been through the game already lol.

anyway, can some body give me the "best" tips to decrease cpu load while playing it?
as i have only an Athlon XP 2600+ @ 1.9 GHZ which isnt the best for such a game.
of course, close all other applications, set the priority higher for TDU and end desktop.exe.
any more?
There is some hack were you can turn the traffic off, it increases FPS but is considered cheating.
You don't need a 'hack' to turn it off, you just have to rename the 'traffic' file.

But yes, it is cheating and has said to have been causing problems online.
Is this honestly worth buying? I am still very interested in the idea of the game. I'm just worried about it running like garbage, the low-poly road surface causing cars to take flight and the random stupid glitches which the developer either doesn't know how to fix or is not allowed to fix because of time constraints.

These are all things that worry me (and remind me of EA...). Anyone care to enlighten? I do want an honest no BS assessment.
I guess it depends how much spare dough you have burning a hole in your pocket.

I think it's worth the money, but I don't play it that often anymore. The concept is awesome, and the gameplay is quite good, the graphics are beautiful and it runs fine for me - but I guess my PC is above average. The low poly roads are the only thing that really bug me. It doesn't cause HUGE problems, but it can be annoying sometimes. But then, in the context of what the game is - it's not that big of a deal. Obviously the physics are not LFS, or even GTR2 for that matter but it's beleiveable enough to be a fun way to do some gaming if you love cars.

In terms of gaming it's a pretty unique thing to have, and so as a collectors item it's must have. The scope of being able to explore in total freedom an entire (extremely picturesque) island is quite impressive, at least to me.
Those are all the things I expect this to have, so that's good to hear. I am still worried about glitches/bugs and performance, though. I too have an above average machine, but I've heard a lot of people with great computers are having trouble with it.

I suppose if there was a demo I could find out for sure. If it were possible to return opened software then I would have no issues going out an buying it, but since you can't...

As for spare cash? I've got almost $2000 in my account, which isn't a whole lot; especially considering I am currently unemployed and in September I'll be back at college. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and go for it. I really want to try it.
I'm holding off until there is a demo or I hear those bug craters (pun intended) are fixed...
Only bug that still annoys me is every other time I go into the game, I have to alt-tab out and back in, or the models aren't rendered correctly. Not exactly a showstopper.

Fairly average machine as well, A643400 @ 2.4Ghz, 7600GT, 1GB Ram, handles 1280x1024 on high fine.
Quote from Rtsbasic :Fairly average machine as well, A643400 @ 2.4Ghz, 7600GT, 1GB Ram

u call that average?
i guess mine is then stoneage like as i have athlon xp 2600+ 1.9 GHZ, 7600GS, 1 gig RAM(333mhz).

i just wonder if there has been done anything (or somebody does know a way) to do something against that annoying stuttering when driving fast (obviously a loading problem).
AFAIK the stuttering has to do with graphics card ram and system ram.

I get maybe one or two stutters when I first load it, and that's it. I also get the "improper rendering" BS but alt-tabbing out and in does fix it. There are a few inconviences like that, don't get me wrong but nothing to make it unplayable.
FTR I run it on:
1280x1024 w/ AA/AF (although apparantly HDR disables AA, but I can't tell)
(All details maxed)
A64X2 4200+, 2GB DDR, 7900GTX 512MB
Quote from Atari Forums :Atari confirm that Eden are currently working on a patch for the PC version of Test Drive Unlimited which will be available in May. With the patch Eden are working to address the following issues:

* Corrupted saved games (previously corrupted save games will not be restored)

* Game freezing / crashes

* Performance optimization

* In-game exploits

The patch will undergo thorough testing at Eden and Atari prior to release to ensure the quality. Further information will be available in due course. Thank you for playing Test Drive Unlimited.

Just in case anybody missed it
Quote from Bladerunner :Just in case anybody missed it

i guess i did, but my game isnt even here yet
but i think it will come this time, and by then the patch will hopefully be available.
im sure it would help me quite a bit.

I hope this is more thoroughly tested than the buy online option was. It was apparently tested several times before launching, but yet every single person who used it could either not unlock the game or could not progress into the first race.

I suppose I'll wait until this patch has been released and read the reviews. Maybe the price will have come down by then, too...
