Well, personally, I was lucky enough to get some lag at T1 in that race and was able to be out of there easily. I have to say, the BF1 is a tough car to drive when you want to take it to the limit. I remember reading on the LFS website about the car where the devs said that "you'll soon respect real F1 drivers" and tbh, I've realised that. Perhaps it was to due with maybe me needing to get some more df out of the car but its a difficult car to drive when driving consistent and fast then needs very careful and professional driving when racing with others, BF1 is just SOO sensitive to it all. I won't consider anything like dropping out now but I do sense that there will be a ton of issues, EVEN only in the first race . I suggest to ALL drivers and including myself, to practice like MAD! racing with each other. Due to the unpopularity of the car, or at least unpopularity on real tracks (not ovals ), a lot of us would have little experience racing against each other in the BF1. I suggest we hold another session, either official by the admins, or we sort it out between ourselves, WE REALLY NEED TO DO IT! and a few sessions as well.

Well, to get started, I suggest next Thursday night. What do you say lads?
Sounds like I was right to miss this.

I wasn't competitive after a practice revealed myriad setup issues I did not have time to solve, so I would've made things worse at T1.

Good luck with your series - I think I will stick with the good old FO8 until the next physics update.
BF1 isn't impossible, just difficult. One of the reasons why I like it, it challenges me all the time .
I have my server setup on patch W for the first race combo, the intention being that people practice racing not just lapping on their own. Its called Q11: SGPS Practice, and once you get about 40-60 laps down you can race consistently enough to have a good result. One of the things people forget is that 70% of the grip is from downforce, so following other cars is much harder than lapping on your own.

I might also add that this race was a public demonstration to try and get people to sign up or show some interest, the problem with that is the rules about minimum practice laps could not be used so obviously there were going to be issues. The secondary purpose for the event was to iron out any problems with the systems and rules so that theres a minimum amount of tweaking needed after the first round. Post your feedback on ways you think the rules can be simplified or post suggestions you have and I'm sure they will all be considered.
That is what causes the lag:

There have been reports of lag and crashes from users servers who are on the: 81.19.219.136 IP.

There will be maintainance and checks being done on that box tonight between 1am - 3am. BST (UK Time)
Thank you, Keith.

We have established that the server has had problems. We were on the plan B server, I thought it was some human error. Now it transpires that the issue was there

Please post any feedback, I know the start was not great, and we will keep our ears open for future events.
