hehe, but seriously:

I wonder if something like this might be a useful feature (assuming its possible - maybe even with insim ?)

If switched on in the server, it could put a red (R) for rookie after the names of any racers who's licence is less than 1 month old...

That way its easier to see if a bad driver is just an idiot, or if they are just new to the game... So it would be easier to decide wether to try and help them, or just to kick them

It also gives faster racers and idea of who to watch out for on track - give extra room, expect early braking etc...
nice idea...

+1
+1 I like your idea of the red R at the end of names (in perenthesis maybe?), good idea Col, it reminds me of what new drivers have to do in England (not sure if they still do), by having the blue L on their car if they are a "learner".
Let's also add a F to people with licenses older than one year but no PB's in the 103% WR range
It gets a +1/-1 from me

Why?

Because the scheme is all very well and good, but what about people with licenses older than one month who aren't quick?

DK
don't do it on time do it on amount of use

laps done something like that

for example: i might buy lfs play for a day then go on a holiday for two months then what, soon people will have a script that kicks people for not being good enough...... infact one of the oval servers already does that....lol

great idea as long as it has parameters and destructive script like i mentioned doesn't become commen place
R like Retard? lol sorry! good idea! +1

Its red L for learners, and green L's for "just passed"

+1 to this idea. Shouldnt just be 1 month though, maybe 1,000 online miles too?
On one hand it's a good idea, but on the other I could see this lead to some unfair discrimination...
In british motorsport, you have to have a 7" Yellow Square with a black X on it (with 1" strokes) displayed on the back of the car until you have 6 sigatures on your licence. It's called a novice cross, and is soley to help other racers spot the less experienced people.

Not a bad idea frankly, but could be open to abuse in somethink like LFS - people making novice-free servers or something...

There's nothing wrong with being slow... the problems are

not being in control of the car
not knowing the rules of conduct
ignoring blue flags
pulling out of pits into traffic
drifting in a race server
doing 'stunts' in a race server
barging into turns
parking on track
joining mid race and racing the leaders
etc.

all these things may be done by a newbie without them realising that they are unacceptable... but if they really are a newbie, then it's better to educate them than to alienate them IMO.

It would be a shame if some servers used a script to auto deny Rookies, but that would be better than allowing them in then flaming them and banning them.
Instead of a name thing, I suggest an L plate on the back of their car for people with licences with less than 1000 miles or 2 months.
Sounds good (the original suggestion).

+1.
Good idea.

I'd prefer the yellow square and black cross, I don't want L plates on my shiny FZR!!
it should not be based on time licensed, distance driven or lap time, but number of races finished. first, i think it's a better measurement of basic driving skills, and 2nd, it will encourage people to learn not to crash rather than depend on the telepit.
I agree with those who has mentioned they see it abused in the future.

I also agree with the 3rd stipulation suggested that it would be based on races finished.

I do check stats on the server when I see folks driving "less than skilled". But it is a pain checking everyone to see what level they are at or should be at. There have been times where I found myself to have more total laps than the entire 10 racer field, LOL.

Anyone with 5000-10000 laps in with LFS should not be driving like a noob. If they are, then I say they deserve a kick. They should know better. And I've seen noobs with 10000 laps on their stats....

After thinking about this I doubt think it would be abused heavily. Anyone who really wants to prevent new drivers with low lap count can already do that pretty easily (I would imagine) using insim. Also, there seem to me to be plenty of good servers run by intelligent teams who welcome new drivers as long as their attitude is good.
I can imagine some mickey taking though...

hehe, a few days solid of Oval/BF1 then
+1 on the condition it be related to races finished/miles driven rather than time you've owned the game.
Im just throwing ideas here, what if you made somekind of sticker to go on the back of the car which will be in the skin for racers that arent confident of their ability so to warn other racers then when they feel confident enough they can take it off.

or at the end of a race the other people in the server cast votes on how well he has done in that race and you have to have 30 passes or something to take it off...
