3ds max 9 question
Hopefully someone who uses 3ds Max can answer this, as I know it will take me forever to work out and I wouldn't have a clue what to google for.

I'm new to 3d modeling and have done the P38 tutorial and have built myself a McLaren M8A, only problem is I've suddenly lost the little blue dots that represent the vertexes on my model when I click on the vertexes button of an editable poly (see pic) I think I probably pressed some key by mistake. Anybody know how to get them back?

If you click where edges connect are they editable?
If so, then go into Customize - Preferences - Viewports, and make sure the show vertices is checked, and set it to size 2.

Hope that helps, if not I have no clue :S

Just restarted Max and they've come back, thanks for your help anyway
Just curious, are you using 2 screens?

I still want a widescreen or even dual for my desktop, mainly so I dont have to switch back and forth for reference pictures, it makes life so so so much easier.
One day maybe..

Yeah, dual monitors are great for photoshop and having anything 2D open on the second monitor but using any 3D program on the second screen slows it to a crawl (because it has to be software rendered AFAIK). Some graphics cards maybe able to support 3D on both screens but my computer certainly can't. Having a second monitor is really useful and having two 17" CRTs (you can find them for free) is a lot lot less expensive than a nice big widesreen monitor, and AFAIK CRT still has it over any TFT screen I could realistically afford.
Oh no, I'm just referring to having 3dsmax in one monitor, and a reference picture open on the other side, I figure it can be extremely useful.
My suggestion, since your starting fresh in the 3d world, use Softimage or Maya, max is ridiculously buggy and backwards. You'll be saving yourself from a LOT of useless pains.
I learnt Max with just random tutorials on the internet when I knew nothing about Max... I'm now a dab hand at it.

I think it depends on what your like. I'm the sorta guy who knows his way around all the extra bits in Photoshop, so Max is kinda on the same page there so i'm clicking about all the time. Most people see buttons and click or use the occasional shortcut key/combo, and I think Maya (I haven't personaly used it, but I know someone learning it now) is much like this. Very interface button intensive.

But yeah, to the OP, if a restart of Max doesn't fix your problem, delete the 3dsmax.ini in the main dir, that's always sorted any problem i've come across. xD

EDIT: I gotta read thread better. xD

Max can do nearly everything (i think particle system of maya is the one which makes difference but that is all) that can be done maya or softimage.Has more plug-in choices.Plus, max is much much more user friendly. It's not buggy and it is not backwards.
