Quote from ajp71 :The FPA is very different to an F3 car it is very unusual in using an aluminium honeycomb tub and a smaller turbo charged engine. In the right hands I think you'd find a FPA could be as quick as an F3 car it's just that generally they are driven by idiots who think they are racing drivers.

OK, there are some not so great drivers in FPA. And the engine isn't much smaller, both are 2000cm3.

Quote :Whilst I like the idea of a wingless single seater would a FBMW really get used, I think everyone would just go for the FOX in the end of the day seeing as in all honesty it's pretty much the same thing.

A FBMW could fit in between easily. A wingless S/S would not get a tonne of use as it isn't as abusable, when I imagine FBMW are. FF is more of a gentleman driver category when FBMW is more of a younger driver formula. Not saying that FF doesn't have a good talent pool. FBMW is a nice hybrid of FF and Formula Renault (which is a step up to F3 yada yada yada)

Quote :In the real world IRL and CART cars are the same thing and would just end up being a less popular F08.

Nah, CCWS cars have turbo 2.65 litre engines compared to the 3 and a half litre V8s found in the IRL. I would be able to find more out, I don't know much technical stuff about US single seaters of the top of my head.

Quote :Now you're talking

They wouldn't really fit in with the current S/S, but they would be rather fun. As would an early 90's car, that way we could have an LFS EuroBoss league for LFS gentleman racers with more money than sense
you can remap most cars engines ( you'd be surprised ) but unless you can't tweak air/feul ratio and spark plug timming i dont see the point

Tweakable fuel/air ratios have been used without P2P, TIN. In IndyCars (no clue about CCWS) they can adjust the fuel to air ratio. For example, behind the safety car they burn air with a microscopic amount of fuel. They deffo used to. I'm pretty sure they do this in F1 as well.

On the mappings, what they do is (in the case of A1GP) make a bad mapping and a better one. The ECU runs the bad mapping until the boost button is pressed. When it is, it changes mappings for 8 seconds.

FPA uses 1800cc turbos

Fittipaldi
Hunt
Scheckter
Senna
Mansell
Schumacher
Hill

Between them they've won 16 World titles, that's 40% of the F1 championships since FF started. So far FBMW has yet to get a driver onto the podium, let alone produce a champion. So don't write FF off

OK, list of drivers who joined F1 this year or last.

Lewis Hamilton - F Renault, F3, GP2, F1.
Heikki Kovalainen - FR, F3, WS by Nissan (as it was then), GP2, F1
Bob Kubica - F Renault, F3, WS by Renault, F1
Nico Rosberg - FBMW, F3, GP2, F1
Scott Speed - Several F3 at the same time, GP2, a couple of A1 meetings, F1
Adrian Sutil - hillclimbing*, F BMW, F3, A1, F1
Yuji Ide - F3, JGTC GT300, FNippon (old F3000 cars), F1.
Sakon Yamamoto - No idea.

*Swiss FFord is basically a hillclimb championship due to the motorsport ban.
I won't count Antony Davidson as he's been testing for eons.

Compare how many times FBMW appears and then how many times FFord appears. Bear in mind that FBMW appeared in 2002.

And it's produced an A1GP driver whose nation won the championship with him driving a lot of the time(Nico Huelkenberg). 2 of the current GP2 top 5 have done FBMW. None have done FFord.
The first 4 of those have potential the bottom 4 are a complete joke, I doubt any of them is real world champion material if they're put in a car where they have to fight for it.

What I'm saying is don't just rubbish FF, it may have declined in recent years but TBH the current crop of FBMW/GP2/Renault V6 and so on are unlikely to last as long as F2/FF/F3000 and almost certainly going to produce less real drivers champions than FF ever did. Seeing as Shumi and Senna are undeniably the most talented drivers of the last 20 years
