Going to the Ring: Oldtimer Festival! Any camping tips?
Yo!

Simracers going to the Ring! Not likely to drive the Nordschleife, but just having a look at it and watching some races on the 'new' track should mean a good weekend, 15 16 and 17 june.

Any LFSers coming? Some old Group C cars, GT, motorcycles (iirc).. might be a good event, and if last years Spa Historic GP was to be similar, it won't be crowded and you can basically walk through the pits and get a real good look up the cars exhaust pipes. Smile

Since its a popular destination for more than a few LFS forummers, where is the best place to stay? Are there campings that have those 'permanent' tents with beds and a fridge etc? I have yet to embark on a Google search, but figured it made sense to ask here..

Seeing the Ring after driving it for 9 years virtually.. Looking forward to that! Smile
Hi Niels Smile

There are many places to stay around the Ring, many hotels & campings.
It all depends on what your budget is really, campings are cheapest of course and those few hotels that are very close, can get pretty expensive.
Those that are very close are usually full though so it's wise to book in time.

These two links should help you enough I think..

I'd say hotel, since the weather can change at the drop of a hat up there, I stayed at the Hotel Zur Burg and would recommend it VERY highly, but like Michel says, book early, it gets full very quickly.

Other than that, I remember seeing a nice campsite on the B258 towards Blankenhiem, a bit before dollendorf, looked nice as it was down the bottom of a valley with a nice stream and waterfall etc, plus it's far enough away from the ring to get some peace and quiet!!!.

If you are going to view racing rather than drive the ring, I would check out here > http://www.northloop.co.uk/photography.htm as viewing is a real pain on a 13 mile curcuit.

edit: my bad, you are not viewing racing on the northloop, I assume you are viewing on the GP curcuit

It's an awesome place, unique atmoshpere, you'll love it.

P.S @Michel, many thanks for the links of those photosites, forgot to thank you Smile
Thanks! That should help Smile

Lets hope my 'new' camera with 432mm zoom can do some good.. Smile
We're staying at http://www.pension-muehlenhardt.de/ in the 'centre' of the old track, near the Karrusell. Some places where booked but this had a few rooms left, and aparantly serves food and beer, so thats about all you need.. Smile

Lets do the anti rain dance! :S
