hello, the speedometer is wayyyyy off, when you go 40k it feels like your going 20k. and for the next patch i would be extremely gratfull if that could be changed.
The speedo isn't off... If it says you're doing 40, you're doing 40...
Set the FOV to 25 and suddenly it feels accurate... Of course you can't race like that, because you don't have a small rectangle in your real car to see through.

So, basically, get a bigger screen and turn up the FOV to realistic settings for your FOV and it should look real in terms of speed.

Remember that your racing on a wide wide track... Just try South City for a change, then you'll notice your going fast...

N2003 generates an incredible sense of speed without the use of wide FOV angles or motion blur style special effects, it does it by incorporating you into the experience rather than making it look like a fast videogame, in which you will never feel what the car is doing. LFS is nearly there, it has a good feel to it, let down a bit by the sounds, but it will be 'there' soon.

Using a mouse isn't ever going to make you feel part of the car, as you don't drive a car with a mouse. The only way to get a sense of speed using an artificial method of input will be through using NFSU style motion blur effects.

My advice would be to invest in a wheel and leave your monitor alone.
I was driving today in one of the newer minis going 60-80kph on a relatively wide peice of road and it felt like i was doing 20.

But what you use to drive the car has nothing to do with sense of speed.

Sense of speed is only in relation to the objects around you. If you drive on the salt flats you will get abosolutely no sense of speed as you cant compare it to anything. If LFS had more trackside objects im willing to bet you would get a greater sensation of speed. Smaller details can make a big change as well. e.g. road markings, tarmac colour changes in spots.

No special effects are not needed. N2003 has a lot less objects than even LFS in some circuits (like the 'ring) but the sense of speed is still there due to the intensity of the racing, this couldn't be achieved with a mouse because you will never be able to truely be balancing the car with throttle and brake inputs at the same time.

Mouse/keyboard may not be too slow but they will loose that edge of feel and control a wheel can give you.

we recorded a video of me driving ... when i drove it felt pretty fast - but on the video it looked really slow. you don't have all the bumps in lfs (unless you have a motion simulator), which make you feel fast
hell, i tried yesterday rFactor (sucks!) and when i was going 180 mph i was thinking, im at 30 mph, lol.
i think in LFS its good done, just drive other cars beside UF1

Watch the replay of Achim T's lap in the Sauber at the 'ring and you'll see a sense of speed beyond belief, he must have been driving that in slow motion (an effect also found in the F3000), you just think how the hell does he do that.

Someone really needs to convert this to an mpg for those who don't have N2003

Check there are GTP setups in the track's folder, they should have the endings .sau.sim .maz.sim .jag.sim and .toy.sim. If there not already there then copy them from another track. I don't have GTP currently installed (system restore again ) but I will check tonight to see what might be missing.

Let's take over this thread! I just tried to make a clean new install for the GTP but it says can't load track, whatever I do. It also wants me setup "herself" every time I start the GTP. Which means calibrating wheel, setting up graphics, disabling driving aids... I have run the config.exe, have updated the game before installing gtp. 3d sound is off....
Try dumping these files in your Nurburgring folder, should work then

(The ini is from Achim T's website and the sets from Road America)
