Multiple unlocked copies of LFS
I have been having some problems with LFS freezing recently. I am entering an event this weekend so I have borrowed a laptop and installed and unlocked LFS on that - all working fine.

So at the moment I have 2 unlocked copies of LFS.

As a (hopefully!) permanent fix, I have just made a new installation of XP and LFS on a seperate hard drive in my original PC.

If I also unlock this new install, will I be able to revert to my laptop installation if the new installation doesn't solve the freezing problem? I have 1 unlock left until Friday but must have it working for the event tomorrow so don't want to use it to test my new installation if it will mean that my laptop installation will lock up.

That is for background info really but I suppose the real question is: is there a limit to the number of unlocked copies of LFS you can have, and will an installation ever unlock itself?
I live 150kms away from my girlfriend. Since she is working as a midwife she's also working on weekends, so I have 10 hours of time sometimes :-( . I've also installed lfs on her laptop, unlocked it and it's running fine. The only problem I could think of would be if my girl wanted to try lfs (naaaaa, this would NEVER happen... she's not into playing stupid computer games ;-)).

So if your "first" lfs locks up, you maybe have to shutdown your rig, wait a few minutes for the server to notice you're gone, meanwhile start your laptop and play.

to my knowledge there is no limit in paralell installations. on my hdd are versions 0.04, s1h, s2v, s2w and one that was the w testpatches and is now s2x. all are unlocked and functional. you can use only one of them online at a time, but you are allowed to have multiple installations in your local network to race with friends offline.
as for unlocks keep an eye on them if you use them often so you don´t run out of unlocks.
when i copied my s2w to test the test patches i didn´t had to unlock it for a reason.

No, there is no limit
An installation you unlock remains unlocked.
This means that if you unlock a different copy each week you could end up with 52 installations
-all unlocked and fully functional- per year.

you onlock lfs within its current own folder for the machine and os installation its on
if you copy that folder around on the same machine it will stay unlocked so you can create as many unlocked copies of lfs on your own pc as you like
Thanks for your replies

When I copied to the laptop it needed to be unlocked again. Also, now that I have copied it onto my normal PC's hard drive with the new XP installation it also needs unlocking. But from what several of you have said, once I unlock it, it should be fine, and shouldn't prevent me from using the other installation on the laptop, so I'll give it a go.

This is correct
Cheers Dru. As you know it worked, or I wouldn't have raced at the weekend

Glad you got it sorted thou..
Well i got that sorted but the original problem is still there. There's a thread in teh tech forum about it. I'm going to try a different GFX card next. Must get it sorted for 2 weeks time!
