Real Tracks
First off I love LFS and have played it for at least 4 hrs a week for the last 18 months. The #1 thing that would make it the best sim in the world would be to have tons of real tracks. As a racer in real life I dream of the day I could sit down at my computer and learn new tracks before I show up to them. Since I am from the US these would include:

Road Courses:
Road America, Mid Ohio Sports car complex, Blackhawk Farms, Gingerman Raceway, Grattan, Putnam Park, Road Atlanta, Virginia International Raceway, Roebling Road Raceway, Carolina Motorsports Park, Barber Motorsports Park

Oval w/ infield road course combined:
Indianapolis, Milwaukee Mile, Gateway International Raceway, Iowa Speedway, Daytona, New Hampshire International Speedway
i like short tracks :laola: :laola:
NO! Eric has NEVER made real tracks and NEVER WILL!
Oh here we go again

I think dalek summed up the general conclusion.
Whether RA would be fun or not, it just isn't possible for Eric to make a real track .. real.
It takes teams of well over 20 people to make a track semi realistic, and that is with some serious technology to work with too. One man can't really do that. Yes it would be nice, but it probably won't happen.
Where did you get that figure from XC? You don't need 20 people to make an accurate track. You just need to know what you're doing to make an accurate track. For a lot of tracks, the needed resources are available on the net.

Never will? I wish you wouldn't make sweeping statements with no proof behind them...

I'd like real tracks, but a real track like Magny Cours or something like South City? i'd take SO
Yea, Magny Cours is a pretty pants circuit, like most F1 circuits.

Okay.. one person could make it if they wanted, but think about how long it would take.

Also take this into account: while Eric makes one insanely detailed and realistic track, what else could he have made in that same time?

Butter and Guns, butter and guns...
Oh yea, it'd definately take a while and I'd prefer a well done realistic fictional to a rear track any day. I was just making a point :P
subcontract the work out
Quote from Nunzio-ICC :subcontract the work out

You have any idea how much that would cost?

You do realise that there are only three (3) people making this game. Not some gamehouse which has hundreds of people and millions of dollars.

I just did a little searching and rough calculation. The devs have gotten less than £2 million out of the whole LFS deal. And that is an absolute MAX figure where it is assumed that every one who has an account at LSFWorld has an S2 license. Bear in mind that this has been gained during the whole life of LFS (started in 2002). Once you take into account TAXES, the cost of servers, hardware, software, living expences etc. There is not much left. How much money do you use in five years?

Even if it was all profit it wouldn't be a very high persentage of a subcontract deal for a real track.

In short: Your idea wouldn't work.
Why?

I'll tell you.

If you take something out of the real world and happen to have been there or seen it or driven or played with it, whatever it is you've done something to it in the real world, and you have it put in the game, no matter how hard someone tries, it will never be as good as the one you had seen.
Having something real spawns complaints about how unrealistic it is etc. For example, every game that has Laguna Seca Mazda Speedway, I bet Tweaker has seen those games and looked at their model of Laguna Seca and can point out tons of errors that aren't right about the place. Same with me and every game that happens to have Road Atlanta, I can with ease point out things that are completely wrong about it no matter how they got it from the world into the game.

And if it does look real, you have to play the game, only to no surprise the track itself feels not at all like the real track does.

These attempts by iRacing however may come up fruitful and it will have the most realistic tracks of any game in the world.
I'd say that's not the reason XC; The reason is that highly realistic games (physics-wise) do not sell as good as half-sim (rF and GTR2) or arcade racers. Simple as that.

I will say, though, that I do get annoyed when I see a very inaccurate version of Mosport in a sim... which is virtually ever single version of the track out there in digital-land. Project Wildfire is the best one (has been converted to rF too) but it is still WAAY off (especially the scenery).

I'll have Sachsenring, Lausitzring, Oschersleben, Hockenheimring, Most, Brno and the Nordschleife. But the pit boxes aside and the grandstands on an extra plate, please.

Oh it isn't the reason, I'm just saying, if we had a real track, there will always be complaints about how "not right" it is.

I personally still think the MRT doesn't look right and want to see the right wheels on the MRT.

I also want to test drive that Raceabout and see how weird it does feel.
The only R/L track I would particularly want is Thruxton (mainly because it's my local track).
Maybe not real tracks, but LFS badly needs winding roads IMHO.
Quote from jspec :Maybe not real tracks, but LFS badly needs winding roads IMHO.

This I agree with. I desperately want a tarmac rally type track (Preferably in a forested area with lots of tress to hit when you screw up)
Why does it take a team to make tracks?? I mean, there's HEAPS of people who make tracks or convert them in rF and GTR etc.

If we had real tracks, or the ability to convert them, we'd be able to do things like race FOX at Mt Panorama, or BF1 on the Isle of Mann, or UF1 at Monaco.

The only 2 things stopping this game from being perfect are wet weather, and real world tracks.
If you ask me The only thing LFs is missing is weather.
Fantasy tracks and fantasy cars most of them make lfs so much fun but they could alsk help of famous track designers to create nice lfs Tracks more like reacreating some famous coners like carousell ore ea rouge at Spa Francoschamp

Oh and a sort of radio function for drivers to comunicate mostly suited for teams (that is during a race i mean)
add mugello circuit from italy and its +1 for me
Ok comon not this againim getting quite anoyed the fantasy cars and track and cars are what make's Live For Speed , Live For Speed

WOW !! sorry i forgot i already did a post sorry u guys!
