This is patch X Demo..

When the scenery moves fast, e.g. when it pans as you turn a corner, it's not completely smooth. It has a fast, small regular vibration type effect to the motion. You could even misinterpret it as a vibration of the car, but it's not because if you're stationery other cars do it as they move past you.

Now, in other games I've had a similar effect but only when Vsync was turned off. But as I've 24" widescreen LCD, and tearing annoyed me, I always set it to "on". But in LFS, I'm getting this vibration effect even with Vsync turned on. My FPS would be around 90-100 the whole time if I turned Vsync-off - to give you an idea.

Is this my PC? Or is it LFS?

It's not diabolical, but slightly detracts from the immersion.

I have tried pretty much every PC tweak known. And the mobo was changed from a EVGA Nforce680i to no effect. I have triple-buffering enabled via Rivatuner btw.

Anyone else see this effect?

Do you have full size textures on in the graphics menu?

I know what you mean and its a bit annoying that V-SYNC on doesnt help this.

Believe me with custom textures (if you get an S2 license i really recommend looking through the Texture Forum) an max AA you'll get 100 fps easy with your PC.

That's right...mock the afflicted. Actually, that was pretty funny.

Try re downloading the full game and extracting it to a different location (vanilla install) and run that to see if you still have problems. I can easily run the game maxed out with like 1/4 the rig you have so there is definitely something wrong. If you are still experiencing problems with a vanilla install then it is probably not LFS related (most likely drivers).

Yeah, I think this is just a side effect of how the physics and rendering are coupled together.

In LFS the physics (and camera animations, that sort of thing) run at 100Hz, and when you sample the scene for rendering at 60Hz (v sync) the resulting visible animation is bound to be a little erratic. Most of the 60 rendered frames will step the physics twice, while a few will step it only once, resulting in slight stuttering.

The effect shouldn't be very bad though, so if this is a bit more than an annoyance, something else might be up.

Difficult to corroborate your theory because looking again with vsync turned off, it really is doing the same juddering thing that I see with GTL, GTR2, and Fear, which is actually a bigger effect than the LFS one with vsync-on.

Anyway, as pointed out, I might as well upgrade to the full version, and it's not that bad anyway. I really like the physics. Engine sounds are the weak point though (IMO).

Just an idea: What refresh rate are you running? May be 70 or 75 Hz? Set it to 60 Hz. And check if you don´t override the rate via the control panel or river tuner.

Limit your framerate to the 62 FPS in game, and off course Vsync on.. That worked in my case..

These games are probably doing the same thing as LFS with respect to physics and rendering. Most games these days do to prevent the physics from changing with the framerate. (Like on older versions of CS where ~100FPS made you run faster and jump further.) Turning v-sync off doesn't entirely remove the problem either, since your screen still redraws at 60Hz. It should help though (but with tearing of course).

Hmm, you could try to lowering the resolution to one where your screen can display at 75Hz vertical refresh (1280x1024 on my Dell 2405FPW), and see if that makes any difference. Here it made it worse, but it's worth a shot I guess. This is fundamentally a problem with LCDs being limited to 60Hz I think. A good CRT at 85+Hz will always look much smoother in these situations, and the more Hz the better.

I think this Dell's fixed at 60Hz, but I wouldn't want to run at non-native anyway. I did try GTL (Vsync off) on a CRT, and it still juddered at 85Hz. One other thing though, if the GTL (or GTR2, Fear etc.) FPS got much above 100, then it became smooth at that time even on the LCD. Conversely, the lower the FPS, the worse the juddering effect was. But that's a much worse effect than LFS' with vsync turned on. But as I said, with vsync on, GTL (and GTR2 and Fear etc.) are completely smooth...just not LFS. Bit of a conundrum! I tried Boris' cunning plan of turning down the game FPS to 62, but no joy.

Oh well, never mind. Such is life....
