No its not Nforce, im using the Asrock Dual SATA2 board, which is on the ULi1695 chipset i believe.
i found out what was causing all my lockups. my videocard was defective. i did an RMA with evga and the replacement was even worse! then I got a third one from them and it crashed once, then i reinstalled video drivers again and all is well.

finally!
Is everyone with problems sitting on a AMD processor?
Im having crashing freezes too after X version, I have tested the X2 version too but same problem there.
Now Im testing this:
- AMD Dual-Core Optimizer = didnt help!

- upgrade to latest nForce graphic driver for my 8800GTS card. = didnt help
- turned off write combining = didnt help
- upgrade nForce 4 drivers = didnt help
I've had similar experience with freezing/choking (Dell Latitude D600 with Radeon 9000) and I have tracked the issue to the temperature. I've bought two big cooling boxes (these are _very_ cheap) that I have in the freezer through the day and when I want to play LFS in the evening, I just put one under the laptop and the second on the top of it (two places that gets hot when playing LFS) and the problem is solved ;-) ... but I plan to get a better HW for LFS, anyway, because it really needs it
This is making me so dissapointed, im not able to run LFS anymore.
It crashes after 5-10min, then It can be working for hours.
Before it killed my PC to reboot, but now after all updates I have done it "only" freezes and I have to switch (alt+tab) and wait to windows.
There is no error messages, this problem came after upgrade to version X.
I had no crashes with version W and before that.

That's all for me...

Didnt I read somewhere to disable internal Audio card if you have a external one...
Hmm... I have that, let's try...

LFS R.I.P or maybe not...

EDIT:
I think the sound card issue solved the problem, no crashes after I turned the internal card of in bios.
As Mike2002 says, I think that this problem has only ever been reported with AMD processors. If anyone has had this with an Intel processor I'd be very interested to hear.
I have the crapy Intel celeron 320, and I have the freeze's too.
I have noticed, that it alweys hangs when I am using heli view. I reinstalled DX, and it helped for a while, but now its freezing again.:thumbsdow

Edit: And it all started when i updated to patch X.
OK, thanks. That's interesting to know because you're the first Intel user who I've found who has it.

Have you tried to fix it much? There is a list of things I've tried at the top of thsi thread:

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=26541

most of which are things that I've found that other people have tried with some success.

Strange about the heli view. Maybe that uses more GFX power, in which cause it's probably worth checking for GFX CPU overheating.
It wasn't overheating. The hightest temp playing lfs was about 67, but sometimes it's below 60*.BTW my GPU is 6800XT. Enable write combing on GFX card - where can I find this???

I think it's my CPu that make's those freezes. Anyway, I will try to reinstall Win tomorrow. Maybe it helps
It's under Control panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Troubleshoot

Let us know how you get on. I wouldn't be surprised if your problem is fixable because most people with this problem have AMD, but I could be wrong .

Nope, didn't helped Still freeze's
Wow, that was quick! If you have an external soundcard, make sure you disable the onboard one (if you have one). Best to do it in the BIOS. Also, make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed, plus latest GFX drivers. They are probably the most likely to solve the problem.

DOn't have external saund card. I tried a lot of driver versions. I tried NGO, newest nvidia, and the drivers, that came with GPU (6X.XX maybe). I'll try the thing with DX
Could anyone with this problem please post their BIOS name and version? I have discovered that two of us with the same problem share the same BIOS and it's just about the only thing our machines have in common. Thanks!
