yeah i was trying to figure that out too...
Quote from sicbeing :...And will is cost another 12 lbs?

Thats heavy money!
The way I did it was to send another £12 via paypal to Live For Speed. But I can't remember if I did it via LFS.net, or just looked at the order confimration email I was sent when I payed beforehand...

I'll try and remember/figure it out.
yeah, i'm be able to pay until 36 pounds, after this.... I don't want to pay other 12 pounds!!! weelllll, maybe if the game have dinamics tyre wear, umpredictable change wheater, some people on the track (silverstone 2004?!?), real life pit communication, real damage model, etcccc

36pounds isn't really alot if you notice how quick price tag of mainstream PC games are rising....latest PC games all cost at least 30 pounds now, by S3 comes out I wouldn't be surprised if 36pounds for S3 actually turns out to be cheaper than most of the mainstream games,AND with better quality (Totalcrap driver 5 and CMR08 anyone? XD)

But for people outside UK, whatever calculated from pounds is gonna be expensive.....maybe we should switch the base of production to thailand?

LFS will be 'finished' at S3. There won't unless the current plans change which I can't imagine, be an S4 onwards. So £36 (equiv) is LFS Full.

As for what you ask for:

dynamic tyre wear: Isn't that what we have now? I'm sure it'll get better still - heat cycles, blistering, etc one day
umpredictable change wheater: Planned, I think, for S3
some people on the track (silverstone 2004?!?): Not gonna happen
real life pit communication: At the moment, use TeamSpeak (or similar). Voice Chat will probably not be in LFS itself, and at least not until the final 'patches' of S3 if ever.
real damage model: What we have now, but needs improving. Current model is merely aesthetic.
etcccc: I'm sure there will be more.

We never get any "We need skidmarks" threads anymore! How come?

You are correct, but Live For Speed is not a game.

Those thinking about pre-paying, make sure you read the End User License Agreement before pre-paying, particularly:
2.3Payments larger than required will have the remainder on record, for future purchases. A personal status and history of payments is available on our website. 2.4Payment remainders can not be refunded.

So be aware that IF S3 were cancelled for any reason, you won't get your money back.

I don't care since money goes to right hands and support authors.

Well let them have a couple of pints on me then , but a valid point to point out Sinbad

shift 3 mr sicbeing! (the one left of $)

Two things trouble me with that. One American keyboard layout is different in a lot of ways (many many keys are in different places to what we have). Two, you are English, the correct spelling for your name should be dumbarse

Hmm, S3. Me thinks when I get my next investment from the SLC, I'll but S3, and then some other stuff I'll wish I didn't bother.
Two years ago I assumed S2 would come in 2004, and S3 in 2006. As the time has passed we all(including the devs) see how big project it turned to be, and how much there is done during last years and how much more to be done.

Now, taking into consideration what Scawen said about development time, it's not hard to estimate that final S3 won't come before 2008. I personally even think not before 2009.

And due to inflation, 36£ won't seem that expensive comparing to other games in 2008 or 2009 or whoknows when.
And... That additional 12£ for S3 is not final yet. We'll see what the devs will come up with.
Quote from Gunn :You are correct, but Live For Speed is not a game.

I totally agree with you. Thats why I bought my license.
But however. I was thinking ahead of time. When the product is finished. Altough it's a simulator I think many, many people still thinks of it as a "game".
And no one likes to drive on empty servers and we can't rely on hardcore simulatorfans forever. And 48GBP might lower the total userbase in the future.
Just look at the S1 userbase.. Oh right - THERE IS NONE!

EDIT: Oh wait. You agreed with me. Note to self: Read the actual posts before I replying on them.

I remember writing a review of LFS S1 when it was first released for a now defunct gaming website, although I can't remember exactly when that was since none of that site's files are online anymore. if I had to guess I'd say late 2002 or perhaps early 2003.

[edit The join date of "March 2003" suggests that it was round that time that S1 was released since I set up the account in order to buy a copy of S1 for review /edit]

I played it for a while and then drifted off. Last Thursday I was idly surfing and discovered the S2 release and decided to buy it. I've no doubt I'll play S2 for a while and once more drift off to do other things, and one day I'll probably come back and get S3 too...

I suppose the point to all this is that personally I don't think paying £12 once every three years or so is such a bad thing, although the tracks and cars are very similar across the two releases. Consider how much content is common to all of the Gran Turismo games, personally I own them all, how many of you can say the same thing?
Tracks... and cars... are similar... in S1 and S2?
Quote from AndroidXP :Tracks... and cars... are similar... in S1 and S2?

All the cars have four wheels minimum.
All the tracks have a black top.

Weeeeell I remember taking a gti/fxo/ supra look alike thingy around Blackwood in S1 and doing something that felt very similar in S2...

However I have this nagging feeling that I am being a stupid n00b and that you are pointing that out to me so I'm going to close my big mouth and go away in case I manage to fit the other foot in too...
I just did a quick conversion and £36=AU$83.44. Most games here cost $80-100 already. I can't really see S3 being poor value for money
I compare everything to Papy's Nascar games. I had Nascar 2 was the best I could run on my old machine, until I upgraded to run NR2002. Games typically run $39-$49 in the US, so I could have paid say $39 if I got it (NR2002) when it was new. I bought it the end of last year for $15, but by then it was old. But anyways, when S2 is finally finished with all the bugs worked out of it, not the improvements, but the physics and tire bugs etc, I would concider S2 a finished game much like NR2002. Then NR2003 came out and it was really the same thing with updated opponents, and a few things added like glare, dirty windshield, but not all different than 2002. Guess what, it was another $39. With LFS each installment is only $22. S1 was fun, definitely worth the $22, but I'm not sure if I would have stayed with it. S2 now even not finished has improved dramatically with graphics, sound, physics, and content from S1 and is only another $22 (usd). As I said, I would concider it a finished game, even though it really isn't. If not for S3 coming, I would probably stick with S2 for a long time before moving to anything else. And it would have to be something far better than rFactor and GTR has to offer. S3 will add more features, hopefully better graphics, etc and will be another $22. Following along with other games, this is not unreasonable at all, infact it is a good bit cheaper than you get with other games/sims that change every year slightly and cost an additional $39.
mmm, I think I'd happily pay £12 every couple of years for an update... (S4,5,6 etc)

Think of it like 'licensing' and £6 a year isn't too bad at all (at work I pay out about £40,000 a year for various software licences)
