New Circuit Layouts for Leagues?
Personally I feel now it's time the sim world started to streamline it's approach to the way it organisers it's leagues. Take it to a whole new level.

To some extent STCC has shown what can be done so far, but I feel that LFS should sanction a LFS Championship for each year, where only the top drivers can qualify and race.

However, the problem is this - who is the best????

LFS allows so much practise time it means that if you practise enough on one circuit you will eventually be quick, and maybe this isn't a true reflection of skill.

So my idea.....

Introduce a new championship sanctioned by LFS titled.

2007 LFS Championship

However, what makes this championship special is that it is run similar to a normal championship.

The circuits you use (or layouts) are new.. totally new, and you only get the time before a race to learn the track, and set your car up. So no one will know what the track will look like until they race it.

So each race no one goes in with 1,000,000 miles under their belt, and this way you get to see who can

1. set their own car up
2. and who can learn a track without sitting and watching the .spr wr replays.

So you get maybe 2x 1 hour sessions of free practise.... then quali then race.

make an event of it.... maybe have it as a 6 round championship with one dropped score..... and really publicise it, and offer live broadcasting. This is the only way I can see sims moving forward.... have ONE official championship...

for sure have the other leagues..... but the thing is I think there should be a pinnacle series.... the top.... so when someone goes... who's the best driver... you don't have a whole host of names.. you have one driver!!!!

for sure....who's going to do it??? well I think maybe the dev's should consider it as it will be an LFS sanctioned race and they will have to design the layouts...maybe it is a long term option... but it's worth a thought i think......especially if it became prestigious in some form... it would offer direction and something to aim for for the 1000's of people who race everyday

what do you lot think aaii!????
Would be too time intensive for the devs and it would be just like always, the alien drivers are fast, and the slow drivers would be slow...

Because if you already have a good setup (and a good setup will handle well on all circuits) and you drove this setup for thousands of miles, you will know how your car handle, and this just means you'll adapt to an track in 2 hours easily.
OK make it one hour.... hey they can even have default set setups????

It depends on what you mean by time consuming. A lot of car manufacturers spend considerable amount of time setting up race series, or teams to push their product.

As I said this could be a long term thing... in the future..... but it's definately worth considering....

The fear is that, like what happens with the servers sometimes, is LFS will become a fragmented mess, and I feel it will be vital for continuity in the game to have one official championship, that really tests who the best drivers are....

So you have 30 guys/gals going at it.... the best of the best of the best sir!!!! lololol

And the added factor of teh racers not knowing the circuit adds to the thing....
Yeah I'm sorry to say it isn't the XXXX amount of miles on a particular track that counts, it mostly comes down to how many miles overall you've driven in and out of hotlap/single player etc.

I think I've done 36K In about a year now and there are still a ton of combos I've never driven, and believe it or not one or two tracks.

But given 30 minutes with a good setup I wont be far from the WR time (under a second easy) and I wont need to watch any replay. Good drivers just adapt faster then the not so good, this comes with experience and not so much 'talent' although it certainly helps.

Finally no one needs to know who is the best of the best, arguably Biggie is the best but he might suck on track against others who prefer racing.

These are just some of the leagues I know that really test the best from the rest, perhaps you should look into them.
why not though.... why not have LFS celebs, or legends????

When you watch MotoGP, F1, Karting World Champs, or whatever you watch it because you want to the fastest and best drivers in the world in their chosen field....

at the moment in LFS you might know who sets the WR in hotlap but you never see this guys racing each other....

I think this is needed to take LFS to a whole new level....

A 6 round sanctioned championship with qualifiers would be mint... imagine how many people would register to just get an attempt to qualify for the LFS World Championship... It would just be MINT!

can you imagine the carnage..... fighting for that last qualifying place... man that would be AWESOME!
I do know about these leagues... but they aren't universally accessible to the whole LFS community...

I am talking about having 1 sanctioned series.... the top one.... surely this would just be proper?
Well I think the idea is a good one and I think it would be a good release event for a new track. Like an invitational (you know all the famous guys) race with practice, qualification and race live broadcasted and when the race is over scawen hops in and releases the track ;D

But... well... *dreaming*
Sorry but LFS Celebrities or Legends? Seriously this sounds like a Pop Idol debate!

We currently have high class racing in many forms, from endurance (MoE) right down to sprint like races (ESCC) these house the best of the best. And yes all the leagues I listed are available to anyone in LFS, but due to the skill level that race within these leagues you'll not find too many beginners there, naturally .

You may want to have a look at DBP's MultiCup Twist 2007.
I like this idea! This is the sort of thing that can really add to a program without undue development time.
I think something simple like a leaderboard on LFSWorld. Just something that under each time says something like '1245/204058' to show where your time comes out of everyone who has set a time.

You know what Hotlap mode is right?
You do realise that real tracks are not re-made ever year, right? IRL most drivers know the tracks they run on quite well by their second season, so this is a pointless suggestion imho.

Although, if it means we get more tracks then +1
I think that time-zones would make this league just like any other; only with people from similar geographical locations participating.

If you set the races to be at a convenient time for, say Europe, then Asia and the Americas won't be able/want to race. It is then no longer a "best of the best" series, and just becomes another league.
Simple question most difficult task: Who will be allowed to be in it?

Besides the simple fact, that this wont happen, because of the missing tracks.
Sure, it would be great if it worked like you imagined. But it wouldn't and it would end up being just another league.

Anyway, you or someone else can organize this if you want, but I don't think the devs are going to use massive amounts time needed to do this.
I believe their needs to be something because at the moment the league system seems to be without direction or purpose.

It's like one big free for all, that naturally means it's a bit fragmented.

i think there should be at least a one-off event where everyone unites to find the best driver out of the lot....

Something that can be described as the pinnacle, something to aim for... rather than just entering a league and racing....

maybe a prize pot could be an option?
Funny this thread comes up, just at the time im working on somthing "big"
LOTA has just started it's MRT-Custom Course Cup! 16 mrts, a custom track built every week on the autocross lot. Last night was the first round of 3 races, and it was a total blast!

The first custom track was great stuff, some very good technical corners, and blasting straights into hairpins
