When you click a persons name and then chat, the sent message should only be seen by the intended person.
Reason:
The whole BLUE FLAG spam saga. It seems the reason why people find this so annoying is because it spams the whole connection list.
If only the intended person received this message it would'nt be an issue anymore.
Either keeping these(spam) messages private or even make a global change like placing a little blue flag beside all of the names on the list would work imo.
If it's kept private we won't have people like noob pressing 1 like sheep.
Keep blue flags private between both partys and the whole issue will be solved imo.
Edit:
Just as a side note and before we all go on a blue flag spam rant discussing the ins and outs of this rule can which can prove to be trickey. So lets just understand that 'the sender' of the blue flag has every right to send the car infront a message to remind the driver in front of the situation. The sender has no right however to spam everyone with that message.
Blue flags are already 'private', the person receiving the blue flag can see it. The person who intends to overtake doesn't need to see the flag, only to focus on making a clean pass.
You are correct in assuming that no one wants to see blue flag spams, including those with a large
no...I'm talking of when the initial LFS blue flag dissapears, if I want to remind the driver in front of the situation I want to send him private blue flag message.
To do this I want to click his name and any text written is private.
You will get a lot of people making lapping difficult. The LFS "BLUE FLAG" message is enough (though a flag would be better at Marshalls posts, even if it's unanimated and magically floating). Plenty of people a) block messages whilst driving and b) take extreme offence to idiots spamming additional blue flag messages.
Blue flag spammers are usually the ones capable of fast lap times but incapable of racing/passing/thinking. Don't be one of them!
^Worst logic ever. If the backmarkers don't respond to the big BLUE FLAG message in the center of their screen, why would they respond to the smaller, harder to read text at the top left?
It's the responsibility of the faster cars to get around the slower cars unless it's stated otherwise in the server rules. In either case, the faster drivers should expect the slower driver to do anything and therefore should leave the slower drivers plenty of space when they pass.
I don't really think it's that difficult to get around backmarkers as long as they're not being idiots and are not trying to block me. Set yourself up for a good corner exit and pass on the straight sections. You might lose 0.1s but if you're good enough, it shouldn't matter
You should keep in mind that your "BLUE FLAG MOVE OUT OF THE WAY" message may make some drivers actually more willing to give you a well-placed tap as you pass them. It's annoying, it doesn't work, and only idiots use them.
yep its annoying - even more annoying than people spamming binds.
i don't think so, some see it. some don't. some say they may have seen it but are playing dumb to what it is....you see my point?
Marshalls waving the flag is overkill imo...and could be hrd to do right.
i got this from dadge:
The blue flag
A light blue flag, sometimes with a diagonal yellow, orange, or red stripe, informs a driver that a faster car is approaching and that the driver should move aside to allow one or more faster cars to pass. If the flag is waved, it indicates to the driver that the fast car is on its tail. In some series, the blue flag is not mandatory - drivers obey it only as a courtesy to their fellow racers. In other series, drivers get severely penalized for not yielding or interfering with the leaders, including getting sent to the pits for the rest of the race. In Formula One (in which the blue is lighter and does not have a stripe), if the driver about to be lapped ignores three waved blue flags in a row, he is required to make a drive-through penalty. In Champ Car, this can be upgraded. A pair of waving blue flags displayed from the starter's stand, known as the Chief Steward's blue flag, order a driver to give way to faster traffic or be black-flagged.

Any driver has the right to tell the slower car in front to get out of the bloody way. Lets face it this type of carryon is never seen on any of the 'cleaner' more 'popular' racing servers. so it's not really a problem, but it can piss you right off at times.
I have every right to go mad and spam and kick and shout if someone intentionally sits on the track.wont move. and is going five seconds slower than the rest of the pack for two-three laps.
However, if the messages are private ie. you clike username and anytext sent is private. then the sheep can go to sleep and everyone's happy
I dont see how spamming "blue flag" in the chat changes this attitude.
If they dont see big blue letters in the middle of their screen they certainly wont see much smaller letters in the top left of the screen. And if they pretend to not know what a blue flag means they also wont suddenly know it after reading it in the chat.
Yes, I agree with you. Let me say though that I never spam blue flag messages, never, I don't like it when people do. I agree also that back-markers should let a lead driver through when its safe to, and they should not compromise their own race.
However this rarely happens, in fact 75% of the time when I am leading a race the back-markers try to race me, they weave and block, they cover their line and do their upmost to stop me from passing. Hell, half they time they swipe my rear wheels to try and take me off! To be honest a blue flag spam is the least they deserve, what they actually need is a ban and a kick up the jacksie.
I stand by my assertion that if back-markers were not so shite then there would be no blue spam. They bring it on themselves and they're rubbish. Not all, of course. But sadly, most. I know there are good solid drivers at the back of the field, but they are the minority.
Edit: And don't get me started on the arseholes at the front, they're almost as bad!
my point is there is no need for other people(the entire connections list) to see a message intended for someone else. Its not the flag thats annoying, it's the spam.
Anyway the proposal in the op was to allow the user to send private screen message by first clicking on the username then typing text.easy. and would actually cut down on a lot of the chatter everyone would have to listen to when driving if it was used and integrated right:detective
