Idea: Tunable exhausts
Perhaps a possible feature (that has not appeared in any racing games, to the best of my knowledge) is tunable exhaust sounds. The exhaust changes may or may not cause hp/torque changes.

I've never been big on the tuner subculture. However, after driving my friend's turbo'd Civic EX Coupe w/ i/h/e (intake, header, exhaust) mods, it was a blast. He had this exhaust that was not too loud, but had a very good BMW-esque raspy sound. :lovies3d: Also, the blowoff valve was pretty loud (cool). :thumb3d: Unfortunately, the car was an auto. :smash3d:

Perhaps this feature may add to a more custimizable feel for racers?
Hmm, LFSTweak lets you change the exhaust sound which was very cool. Although it doesn't work for S2 and it only worked at your end anyway (unless everyone online, server included as LFSTweak doesn't work online unless the server is using it, used the exact same settings).
I would rather have tuned horns.... my mom use to have this car horn on her car that played "dixie", "la Cucaracha" and some other crap.... it was totally obnoxious and annoying.... I would like to see that.

When I first read the thread, I thought you meant tuned exhaust... not exhaust tunes If so, I want my cars to sound like 18 wheelers, jet fighters and steam locomotives
Actually I love the way the exhaust sounds correlate to what your engine is doing.

I thought the exhausts in LFS were already tuned. I seen photos of old racing cars from the late 1940's and 50's and they were experimenting with tuned pipes...
lol some of those exhausts looked like chrome plated pipe organs.

There is just no place for this rice crap is LFS from what I can see.

Next you will be asking to be able to add the stupid trumpet like thing to the BOV's to get the BOV as loud as possible.

LFS is about racing, not about exhaust notes
LOL, I knew I shouldn't have deleted my "Get your flame suit on" comment.

HE he he
It's not rice. If I understand things correctly, the shaping and construction of the exhaust system on a car can greatly affect horsepower and so on.

How the feck is it rice ffs??

Tunable exhuasts, spoilers, wheels, seats etc are not rice but are just normal recaing modifications.
It's rice when you do it purely because it sounds cool, well that's my take anyhow.

Because the person asking for it was asking just because it sounds cool, not for performance! If that is not rice what is.

And if people want tuned exhaust to change performance then we are getting back into that GT4/NFSU idea of when people are not fast enough they feel they need to boost their car so its faster than everyone else to give them a chance. The trouble with this is that EVERYONE will use the fastest combination so those people that wanted the add on bits will still be slower and will then ask for NAAAAWSE buttons and the likes.

Yep. Rice boys add big pipes, BOV's with big trumpets etc because it "sounds good". They also lower their cars by cutting suspension springs instead of fitting proper suspension etc because a car dropped as far as it will go with 5deg negative camber front and back looks cool.
5? I've seen over 20. Frankly I'm scared to overtake them on the motorway.

Tunable parts are not needed in LFS, one thing that keep LFS interesting is that we're all in identical cars. We can already change loads in the setup to try and get an advantage around the track. Differences in power = not a good thing.

The police pulled a load of cars on a cruse in Cristchurch a little while back and showed what they found on the news. One moron had cut down his springs so that they were too short to actually take any load. So the car was sat on the bump stops.

There are loads of deaths of boy racers here in NZ because you can drive at 15 and don't need insurance. You can imagine the mess when 15+ year old kids drive cars like WRX's and Skylines and big V8s.

At least the boy racers in the UK couldn't afford insurance so their cars were sheep in wolf clothing.
Well it annoys me when people say it just looks cool, it helps keep my car from flying off the road, well considering most cars can't reach the speed to make the wing useful your just adding drag and weight with body kits neon lights, and wings. Everytime I see fart cans and benches on hondas I just shake my head. They call it rice for a reason, its tuning a japanese make car and making it look and sound worst than it is. But I cant stand seeing a spolier on a mustand or American car. Its not right. Thats my take, I may need a flame suit, but then again I don't even like drag racing cause its too simple just drive a straight lining punching the accelerator. Street cars/ GTR class cars.. there is a hugh difference and between driver and car. You don't need a wing. I fancy small spoliers that are an inch of the trunk and still keep a low profile I mean its cool, and it isnt a bench. Im 16 what can I say, but I know whats wrong and whats right.
hi... Am I just NOT getting something here?

I thought the cars on LFS were already tuned......
and if you were to have "tunable" parts won't doing that put the car you're
tuning into a different class?
At first doing that (tuning) sounds like a good Idea, but thinkingh about it further, I think it would just make things more complicated and not really
change much.
I mean if they ever do anything with drag racing, then yeah ok.
things like camber just isn't that important... but things
like piston stroke and carberator jets would be.
I dunno... i'd still like to see horn tunes
Well I sure would like to be able to choose from a few different exhaust notes and wheel designs, just to bring some variety to races..
Huru we needs that indeed!

my spare rims

this is actually the gti! :o

change eng file
whoa, big bump here... Btw, this thread was made when there were no .eng files for cars.
I've heard of the 7 year itch, but the 7 year bump?

It doesn't quite work like this. There aren't slower or faster combinations, you can choose to either have more low-end torque, but less top-end power for tight tracks with lots of turns, or to have less low-end torque, but more top-end power for faster tracks. I remember something like this being in NFS3. I think some setup options slightly altering the power output could be implemented in LFS, like A/F ratio, or ignition timing, and that wouldn't cause very big trouble. I still don't think it's what LFS needs at the moment, but it isn't such a bad thing. It would make tuning setups more interesting, but would greatly increase the amount of slower dudes like me crying for setups.
