Sam Thanks. I was not aware you are a moderator (maybe even a LFS team memeber?), anyway, your input seems correct, what makes me believe that it could be solved by the LFS team is that no other software (or game for that matter) appears to behave like that in Vista.
Today I will run some tests, I will install another simulator and will run it using my gamepad. I will report here my findings.
The more information you can give, the more likely it is that Scawen can identify the problem. Things like which graphics card you use, your Windows version, whether you're using a USB hub(? I honestly don't know..) etc.. anything to figure out what scenario causes the problem, and what doesn't, to help Scawen narrow down the different possibilities and find a solution
It may also be helpful to post driver versions for any wheels in question, as this may be the driver not "telling" the OS that some input is being received.
Just to add, on my XP machine moving the wheel or pressing any buttons on the wheel (Saitek R440) does not bring the machine out of its screensaver.
As I mentioned, it occurs in Windows XP also, just to differing degrees. Given that Windows is the platform the game is intended for, it seems reasonable to expect that the game must take into account the way the platform behaves, whether or not the particular behaviour is ideal or not.
Sorry just to make that clear. When LFS is not running and the screensaver is active then moving the wheel or pressing one of the buttons does not bring the machine out of the screensaver. However, when LFS IS running my screensaver does NOT come on. From this I can only assume that the screensaver is prevented from activating via some other process rather than any wheel input.
Bad news, I just installed another race sim, configured my gamepad, set vista to turn off the monitor at 1 minute, and played for several without a single problem!!!
Went back to the desktop, waited a minute and the screen went off.
Started LFS, played a minute and the screen went off!!
I play LFS in full screen mode with Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 and a Logitech Momo Racing wheel. I don't use a screensaver, but I want my monitor to switch off after 5 minutes of no activity. Unfortunately Vista sees playing LFS as no activity...
Well done for bumping an over 1 year old post!
There's a simple fix that EVERYBODY knows, change the power settings
if your using Vista, there's no other way that i'm aware of.
As other user posted, it's an LFS issue with Vista, that I think that the devs may be interested, since it may harm the first timers' experience.
The solution posted is a workaround, and not a fix, since you need to disable the feature.
About bumping the thread, I think it's way better than opening a new thread for an old problem.... it proves that he used the search funcion, that should be used anytime you want to look a solution for a problem here in the forum. I didn't know the solution before I came to this topic (switched for windows vista 64 recently and thought that there was a problem with the videocard drivers).
system specs:
windows vista ultimate 64-bit SP1 with latest updates
radeon 4850 with catalyst 9.1 (with default settings)
Microsoft Sidewinder FF wheel
running LFS on full screen mode.
under windows xp, with the same driver version, this problem don't happens.
