laptop beats the pc wheres the bottle neck
Ive been playing a lot on the works laptop for the last few days enough to convince me to get a dfp which has got me hooked

I am using a thinkpad T43 which is a P4M 1.86ghz 2gig of DDR2 ram and an X300 gfx card(I am a programmer hence the decent spec laptop), with this at 1680x1050 I can get 30fps (with the eye candy on) most of the time which is excellent.

my main machine which I would like to leave hooked up as it has more space for games etc, it is a AMD 64 3200+ Venice, 1 gig ram and an inbuilt nvidia 6150 which has 128meg available to it, this struggles to achieve 10fps, I assume this is down the inbuilt 6150, though I guess its possible to be the cpu

not really a big pc gamer as I spend my day in front of one! so dont like using a mouse much outside of work
so really this is just for live for speed would I be better of getting AMD X2 4200+ or something like a Nvidia 7800gtx (both items seem to be around the £60 mark) and overclocking the cpu
i have AMD 3200+ as well (idk bout that venice thing)

I have
amd 3200+ 64
3.4 GB ram (adding ram had no effect on fps from 512mb - it was for another game)
200gb hdd @ 1.5gb/s
17" lcd @ 1280x1024 and game is run at same, everything on max

Radeon X1300 PCI-Express slot type w 256MB mem.

in multiplayer on full start grid i get 34 fps. when im free roaming i get 50-70 fps...floating mostly 60

its ur vid card!
the venice is an excelent overclocker and its really your crappy graphics card that holding you back so a 78gtx should help to push the framerates above the 70-130 mark depending on resolution
thanks for the advice I assumed it must have been the gfx card have found a second hand 7800gtx which hopefully will improve things a lot
new card has certainly done the trick even with AA + AF on now at 1650x1080 I get 100fps thanks for the advice
