Poor frame rate issues
I running the following setup:

Windows XP
3gb Pentium
2gb ram
Geforce 7950GT

And am getting terrible frame rates, i used to play the game on an older pc with no issues about a year ago so i know the setup is good enough.
I'll be defragging over night.
but basically even running minimal settings on everything im not even seeing 60fps when its just me on the track. and with a grid of 20 im seeing 2/3 fps on the grid/first corner.
Have upgraded drivers on gfx card to the latest version so any suggestions welcome.
Will update if defrag has any affect.
Hi,

with those specs it really shouldn't be a problem and you should be hitting the 80-90 fps easily, maybe 30-40 with full grid.

Let us know if the defrag works

Try to run anti-virus and anti-spyware applications to see if there's anything eating up your RAM.

And try to close the apps in the background. If it makes a diference, turn them on one by one to see which one is stealing your resources.

Cheers
Nunes
I have been having similar issue. Purchased S2 license and played using keyboard for a week just fine, a little slowdown at T1 with twenty cars but nothing too serious.

Then my G25 arrived and the problems started. Also coincided with patch X10 update. I've tried dumbing down the graphics as much as possible, but T1 is typically below 5fps, and hairpins/chicanes can be 10fps. Basically, the game is unplayable.

My PC is 2.4Ghz, with 512 Ram, Radeon 9200SE card, running windows XP. Is this good enough?

Defragged last night, and there has been no improvement. Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.

ur pc is much better than mine and i get 90 most of the time but i hav seen as low as 20-30 on a full grid t1 etc
Do you leave your PC on all night and all day. I do and my old PC got very hot and my frame rates were as low as yours. I even bought a new GFX card and when I put the PC on my laop to fit the new card I realised it was really hot. I gave it time to cool down and it was fine...
Here's something that you might try. Set everything in LFS to high as possible and check your frames.
Now go to your graphics card settings and force off AA and AF and see if that might be the culprit.
if you see a huge increase in the FPS then you know where to look for tweaking and if not, do exactly the opposite.

With your system, you should be getting constant FPS above 70.
Good luck

Thanks for the tips. What do you mean by 'AA' and 'AF'?
I have the same problem ive just upgraded my PC but im still getting 60fps my specs Core 2 duo 2.4, 4 GB memory Dual, dual 8800 GTX, and ive even tried with my old 6800GT all drivers are updated including those for mainboard, sound and so on

Ive tried defrag but no improvement even scanned for virusses, spyware etc still nothing

hmmm

...could try this???
i went ingame and tried to set all to max to see what happend and still 50 fps then i took off "full vertical sync" and boing 200+fps and still with all on max so i think ill let it stay there hehe
Quote from Blackmax :i went ingame and tried to set all to max to see what happend and still 50 fps then i took off "full vertical sync" and boing 200+fps and still with all on max so i think ill let it stay there hehe

That's great to hear man. As far as AA and AF, they are:

AA= Anti aliasing (removes jagged edges)
AF= Anisotropic filtering (easiest way to put it is that it smooths out games)

You can set these at the nVidia Control panel under "Manage 3D Settings"---->Program Settings------->LFS (you might need to add it as an application)
If you are getting 200 with standard settings and Vsync off, try setting them ass high as you can leaving Vsync off and see how much better you can make the game look while retaining good FPS.

Glad you found the culprit.
Have fun
Still got same issues, have tried majority of above ideas to no avail. defrag hasnt made a difference. getting a max of 10fps when watching a replay of 21 cars on starting grid, and even when they spread at max fps is about 30fps on default LOD settings etc.
Only thing i'm yet to try is trying game with pc is a cool state, as my pc is on 24/7.

Applogies for posting dxdiag like this but couldn't work out how to attach it as a file.
Also couldn't work out how to take a screenshot of windows task manager. so if anyone could talk me through that is possible would be grateful.
As you can probably tell im not the most pc literate
(dxdiag had to be cut short as post length was too long)

Quote from Blackmax :i went ingame and tried to set all to max to see what happend and still 50 fps then i took off "full vertical sync" and boing 200+fps and still with all on max so i think ill let it stay there hehe

I've had FPS problems too but I heard taking off Virtical Sync will cause visual tearing. Atleast thats what it says on Halo when you take that off.
I've personally never noticed VSync off issues for as long as I remeber, shooters or racing games.
However, whenever I tried to set it on, I have had a major drop in frame rates.
Also, Vsync syncs the FPS to you monitor Mhz. You can do the same thing ingame with cap FPS without all the other issues of Vsync.
Have finally nailed my problem down to simple overheating. once i let it cool down im getting 40fps with 21 cars. though it soon drops one the heat starts to go up.
So will be installing some extra fans and will see how it goes then
Quote from GruntOfAction :I've had FPS problems too but I heard taking off Virtical Sync will cause visual tearing. Atleast thats what it says on Halo when you take that off.

I didnt notice any visual tearing just that there came more speed on my game and everything runs smoother than ever before you can try take it off and see what happends to your game
Quote from gohfeld23 :That's great to hear man.

Have fun

My game did look much better with all on max but it did also cost some FPS with everything on max i did score bout 130 - 150 Fps depends where on track but my picture did came out like this with eveything turned on to max
Attached images
all at max.jpg
Nice.
Get a high res from Electric Kar (sp?) and it'll look even better.

BTW, nice reflection mod :P

If you can get 100+ FPS with everything on, I'd say run with everything on and as much AF and AA as your card can handle.

Since one of the recent patches, turning off V-sync makes a huge difference to FPS. It never used to though. If you have previously had v-sync on, try turning it off.
