New Graphics Card
Hey,

Im lookin for a Good Graphics card under £100

My computer is an amd athlon 64 3200+ Processor
160gb HDD
512mb ddr ram
Windows xp
and my current card is an Nvidia FX5500 128mb

I average 35 FPS

I've heard people talking about 85-100 FPS so I was wondering what the best graphics card would be

I've searched around and found a Nvidia 7900 GT Which is £84.99 but i've heard this overheats alot??

So I was hoping some of you guys could give me some advice?

Thanks
a graphics card would help, i have quad sli on my machine there two Nvidia 7950gt's 512mb. There good cards, but im not sure what the price of one is. My suggestion would be to upgrade your ram and hdd, because LFS does'nt rely on your gfx card too much, its more procesor dependent.

7900GT's don't overheat alot, i'm not sure who told you this but they don't

an X1950Pro might also be a good buy.

Is your mobo AGP or PCI-e?

Personally i'd get a 7900GS and an extra 512 MB of RAM.

Thats a very nice price for a 7900GT, i'd get it over the 7900GS if thats inc vat.

EDIT - Nathan, bragging about your GFX cards and then telling him he needs more ram when he doesn't is pretty pointless.

His GFX card is holding him back, and while 1 GB of ram wont net him better LFS framerates, but it will make windows generally "snappier" and other games will like it a LOT more.

EDIT 2# - You don't really have Quad-SLi, just 2x 7950GX2's which aren't (imo) "Proper" 7950's as rather than running at the default 550 MHz (or 580 MHz as many companies sell them) they are underclocked to 450 MHz for heat. Add buggy drivers, vRAM which you can never really use and heat/power that could double up as a space heater and it was a complete failure.

Ok
Hey that was a quick response and ye the 7900gt is £84 inc VAT

So Is the GT Better than the GS cuz its my birthday in 3 days and the 7900GT comes in 2-3 days too so thats good

What do you mean by " Is your mobo AGP or PCI-e? "

the GT is better than the GS yes.

Does your mobo have a PCI-e slot, or an AGP slot? If you don't know, just say what mobo you have.

What PSU (Power Supply Unit) do you have?
Telling him to upgrade his HDD is utterly worthless info.

If You are ONLY into LFS, I'd recommend getting:
New Processor: single core 3800+ or close
New GPU: 7600gt would be fine for LFS +AA/AF
512MB more RAM

You'd be close to you budget, but Just a Uber-GPU isn't going to help that much when you're running a 3200+

How do i find out my mobo and psu Sorry for slow reply computer crashed

EDIT
Do you mean MOBO as in my monitor?
#8 - Jakg
mobo as in motherboard
Get this one if you motherboard has AGP slot graphic card:

In case you have PCI-E graphic slot(dont mix with PCI slot) buy this one:

I have same processor and 7900Gt which has same performance as the above cards and its match perfectly with this processor in term of performance. My 7900Gt has very audible cooler as most of the 7900GT/GS cards thought.

Both has very quiet cooler so you will not hear that card in your system.
I would recoment to upgrade the PSU thought:

or this one which could you yu later for upgrade. Its overkill for now but at good price:

P.S:Jakg sorry for my silence in couple of last weeks but I have just finished moving to my new flat.
