I'm new to lfs but i see in allot of replies people giving a answer like the are a developer.
there are only three ,i though.
so how can people say yes or no to questions about development of the game when they are no developer?
i can't give an example becouse than i wouldt attack peole i think
when i buy my license i don't aspect to have bought the right to interfere with the development (only give my opinion or suggestions)
i dint mean it like a attack but do think some peoples ideas are to quickly and harsh knocked down in this manner.
(and when i was a developer i would be offended )
No, but the community being very close to the developers and Scavier keeping us informed quite well means that we know one or two things that are in the pipeline...
The answers are only harsh when people come here, don't search the forums and then think they're very smart and original when they post discussed-to-death--revived--and-discussed-to-death-again improvement suggestions like:
"Add real cars to LFS"
"Add real tracks to LFS"
"Improve LFS' graphics"
"Improve LFS' damage model"
"Add night/rain to LFS"
...
or suggestions that are simply against everything LFS stands for. If for once the topic starter actually cares and puts effort into his starting post so it is not a three sentence suggestion with more spelling errors than words, then also the answers, while not necessarily being an agreement, will generally be longer and in more detail than "no", "search n00b" and "-1".
As peopel say, the community and the DEV`s are close connected togheter (not like and relationship rofl), they share information about the progress of the game, and we share that info out to new users that asking question we have knowlege about.
As much as I like the communty in LFS, it aswell has some downsides with it. People may sound harsh and unwelcome towards new users if they ask a question that have been asked before. I aswell are tired of all the questions about new tracks and cars from new users, but I don`t agree that we need this twatsquad that that screams out "use the search button" all the time.
But if you look away from that, it is a great community, and if you follow common sence and knowlege I belive you would get a warm welcome from most of us
No no Little Jimmy, your not ready to start posting little guy! You don't want to ask a Question that was already answered in a Sticky now DO you!? No you don't.
I'm ferry satisfied with these anwers and do anderstand the short anwers better ,aldo i think its better to say:_i think that_,or_ probely not_ instead of :no
HAVE FUN and hope to see you on the S2 tracks soon!
Taking a look at the Technical assistance section of this forum for example, this is what it looks like......
So, out of the 26 topics on the first page of the tech. assistance section, 8 of them are for freezing or frame rate issues, and 2 are for connection issues.
I found LFS in 2005, back when the forum was officially on RSC. I downloaded the S1 demo and then read the forum. I browsed, searched for answers to my questions, and generally read everything. Yeah, the forum community was quite smaller back then, but you can still put forth a bit of effort in gathering information on something you are interested in.
Last year, I started to get into RC flying. I had no idea about RC, no plane, and no knowledge. What did I do, go on a forum and ask "What plane should I get?" No, I did my own research and found my answers. In fact, I found my answer in the sticky threads and in the 45 other "What plane should I get" threads that was on the front page of the beginner's section. I bought the plane I did based on reading and gathering info on the RC forum and I'm glad I did. Based with the knowledge I gained by reading myself, I made a good choice.
It's so simple. If you are interested in something, and visit a forum for it that has been around for years, you don't have to really ask any question. It's all there if you are not too lazy to look for it. "Beginer's section? Hmmm, I'll bet that has some info I would be interested in since I'm a beginner. Oh look, I was wondering about pitting and here's my answer! Oh, looky up here in the sticky threads... Blue Flag! I was wondering what blue flag meant.... Oh no, I was banned from a server. Nice, here's a sticky thread titled 'I got banned, what do I do?' I'll bet that has some info I'd be interested in...."
If people used the search function there would be no need for internet forums, and partly this is because searching in itself is a comparatively useless tool - designed by Satan the search box specialises in finding information about as accurately as an online translation tool would convert this paragraph into Mandarin Chinese.
To emphasise my point I have converted the post into Mandarin Chinese below, and then converted it back to English again:
If the people used the search function to have can be do not have the need for the Internet forum, and this part was because searched for essentially is a quite useless tool - specially studies by the Satan design search box equally accurately finds the information to like an on-line translation tool to be able to transform this section to become the national language. Emphasized I select me to transform this post to become the national language to be as follows, with then transformed it to return to English again:
So you see, computers dont give you the information you want, they never will. It's people who do that.
The only problem with people is they insist on an ettiquette - particularly in this case a forum ettiquette, handed down from poster to poster, this ettiquette is the unwritten law of forums everywhere - so here, for the first time in iHistory, I will put into writting what forum ettiquette actually is:
1) If you cannot be bothered to answer a post, but cant resist posting anyway, do so. Pay special attention to the part of your post that reffer speople to the search function.
2) If you want to answer the question, but dont want to write a long post, search for the answer and after 45 minutes and a router reset, when you finaly have the information you where after, post a link to the searched information along with a smug reply that it only took you 2 minutes to search for the information.
3) Make a reference to: Hitler; Iraq; British colonial rule over America; or quote a piece of popular literature to create the impression that you are educated and well read, and know your stuff.
4) Be sure to make at least one paragraph of your post completly off topic, this ensures that the conversion will swiftly change and helps to build a sense of community.
5) Always quote somebody else in your post, doing so helps to build antagonism and will help the conversation last longer - holding a conversation over time is a social skill, so make sure you piss off lots of people.
6) When met with a confrontation response to anything you post, be sure to insist on what is allowed and dissallowed in the forum as if you where a moderator, without actually quoting the EULA.
7) Never, ever, abide by the EULA. This is a standard document that the forum owner does not know how to modify and therefor half of the content does not apply. This particularly applies to under 16's who should never, ever, fax or post written confirmation from a parent or guardian that they are allowed to use the forum.
8) Enforce all unwritten rules as if you where a moderator by reminding people what they can and cannot do in a forum post - such as telling people they are not allowed to post a question if it's been asked before and they should use the search feature.
9) Never proof read your post until it is posted, the preview post feature will soak up your internet bandwidth usage for the month and may results in your ISP disconnecting you.
10) Always include a smilie in a post, any offence you cause can then be disclaimed with 'I was only joking'.
If any of this seems wrong then please invade Iraq in one of Hitlers old tanks - PS: Although I wrote this post just now, i'm sure you could find a similar one if you had elected to search.
EDIT: Formatting. Contextual Error.
EDIT2: Sorry, I should have proofed this better.
EDIT3: I forgot to quote
EDIT4: PS: Dont get me started on spelling nazi's.
