The online racing simulator
Quote from Shotglass :physics != graphics
basically the physics run in a process that gets called every 1/100th of a sec (highly important for online play) and the graphics code runs around that ... but for all that matters in this discussion the 2 are independent
if your framerate drops its largely because the physics are prioritized and the cpu runs out of juice to serve your graphics card ... thus even if the game runs at 1fps the code still ensures that the physics run at 100hz to keep the synch going

obviously if you were to underclock your pc to the point where it cant do the physics at 100 hz anymore every replay should go out of synch immediately

But why on my laptop it is so much easier to get airborne? major differences are vista and poor gfx card, can't find any other logical explanation, maybe someone can, I'm suffering dehydration at the moment, can't think too hard, joys of brick shopping
Quote from JTbo :But why on my laptop it is so much easier to get airborne?

got any hard evidence of that ?
Quote from Shotglass :got any hard evidence of that ?

Hard as diamond or hard as steel?

Maybe I should save replay on laptop sometime It is just bit of pita to drive with it so need to spank myself to get that done

you should ... considering how much of a pita it is its entirely possible that it makes you do things differently without you realizing it

Surely, that is possible, as I play with gamepad with laptop, but certainly if I gently touch wall it is gently touch wall no matter what I use as controller, would think so at least
If you run an SPR on both machines of you crashing, and one has a different result (i.e. one flies lots, the other flies a little) then you will know there is a difference from one PC to another. I suspect, unless your frame rate is at 1fps or less, there won't be a difference.

That will be so if your thesis of current collision system is true, which may very well be case, I don't know anything else, but that others seem to have different experiences and my experiences on two machine differ.

It is weird thing for sure, must investigate that...
But isn't a SPR just a replication of what happened and should be the same on every computer?
Quote from Blackout :But isn't a SPR just a replication of what happened and should be the same on every computer?

Yes it is and what happens on fast computer should happen on slow computer too. As far as I know it records only inputs and time, maybe some other parameters and less is simulated again when you play it back, or how much I'm wrong?
Quote from Blackout :But isn't a SPR just a replication of what happened and should be the same on every computer?

afaik it also contains position packets to check if the physics are still in synch
so if there were any huge noticeable difference it should go oos after you hit the barrier

That is not a good comparison, hes just saying the physics seem different to those who can handle it, if you are running 5fps, you may flip, and be back on all 4 wheels, and you wouldn't notice it

A demolished suspension should give it away...
