It will... and it hurts to look at it...

LFS doesn't need to be THAT detailed, but a bit more wouldn't hurt. Take a close look at the cockpits, I have never seen a car that's build that way. I mean, the A-pillar just vanishes into the roof and dashboard. In a real car the roof is different from the A-pillar. This is a small detail, but it has been bugging me for quite a while.
At least the rear view mirror in LFS is much more detailed

Exactly my point... It can't remain that redicolous in S2 Final IMO...

I think there's some kid in the back putting his portable mario brothers game up to the mirror to confuse his dad!

I don`t find it redicolus :P
I like it the way it is, graphic means nothing in this game

While I also like the way it is, I'd also like to see a few more details on some cars, for example UF's and LX's.
I am much more interested in tracks' graphical improvement that car's. The details you pointed out are hardly visible when you race. Actually it is useful mainly to make screenshots.

Agree, I could like more detalied tracks, but the cars don`t really means that much to me.
And in race, you don`t really look too much on the car details, but you look more on the track, therfor I suggest an improvment on the tracks rather
The tracks in LFS look very very realistic, but the cars are really lacking. I don't think that many more polygons are needed, but some better lighting and mapping effects.
Do the tracks actual looking realistic? o_O
Then I would say the car did, but not the track :s

Yes, bring more of those "when i race i'm blind" arguments.. We would still be in C64 age if graphics doesn't matter.

The tracks are great graphically, i don't know what you on about, but just look at the UF1 for god's sake. Look at the back, there is a flat metal part, licence plate "full of details" and two rear lights, if you can call them that. It's a square glass with JPG texture beneat it.... C'mon, get serious, can't believe how foolish people can be... Yes, everything is peachy, it can stay like this forever, great, and you will never have to upgrade your museum computer... Hey, maybe you guys could sell it on eBay or something, some collectionare who seeks for dinosaurs computer may buy it...
I think it won't effect the FPS very much as LFS is only CPU stressing atm. Some more Polys or even some simple Shaders to make the reflection better couldn't hurt as the GPU takes this extra work.
I don't know about you guys, but I've been frustrated with the track graphics from day one! . I'm too distracted by the coarse default textures. Less pixelated textures actually make the graphics less noticeable to me, which is a different argument for improving graphics than the usual one of adding bling for blings' sake, then driving around and soaking it all in. With tracks in high-res, I can pretty much get on with the game, but the lower-res graphics make it difficult.. I still don't drive at Fern Bay much because there are no high-res mods yet.

The tracks themselves are great, and realistic in the sense that they feel like real tracks (wonderfully so). But out of the box they don't look realistic.

PS, for comparisons sake, take a look at the screenshot below and tell me what looks better (more realistic), the car or the track!

Good comparision Electrik. The car looks odd on top of there, seems to be floating. I have downloaded high-res textures for every track i could find as the standard ones look....how can i put it nicely....Horrific? lol

There are definitely plans to update some of the car models, the UF1 included.

In some cases it will take more than just adding a few polys.
Once a car does change the skin mapping is also likely to change, meaning that there is a real possiblilty that old skins would become incompatible with the changed model.

AFAIK there is no set date or deadline or ETA for these improvements, all I know is that it won't be a quick an easy fix.

I don't know what track texture that is you have in your image, but it looks nothing like my default textures. Can you tell me which texture it is?
Gunn,

That's the default gravel pit @ Blackwood (but all the gravel textures are basically the same)

Looks like gravel to me.

by the way (you can kick me for that...) there is a word that´s spelled "ridiculous" not redicolus or redecolus. Hurts to read these!

Thanks a lot, that saved my day.

Anyway, I`m too surprised over the look of the picture you posted. It doesn`t look like it does on my computer :/
Here we go again.

The eternal graphics battle, LFS has golden physics, with copper models.

Ironically more or less the opposite to other "wannabe sims" who has golden graphics with copper physics.

LFS looks good, but it could look way better with some polys here and there, starting with the (upcoming I think) interiors, and following the lights, suspension parts, clocks, undertrays... details.

And I know they are not needed to have great races, I have great races with LFS as it's now!!!

Ahem, you don't need a gorgeous girl to make some exercise, but it really makes it more enjoyable! That's the point.
Gunn, the gravel looks like gravel at a distance, but your shot is a relatively long shot compared to mine. If you could get a shot with the car taking up most of the screen, with some gravel, you'd get something looking like my previous shot.

I just took another screenshot to make sure something funny hadn't happened with that other one (which has been sitting on my HD for months, just waiting for the right time to be used as evidence to prove the car quality over tracks argument! )

Hmm.. I've realized just then though that the sand texture is more stretched in some places than others, atleast at the first big gravelpit after the big straight. That probably accounts for the extreme look of the pixels in that earlier shot (very unflattering). But I think a point can still be made that the cars are ahead of the tracks in quality.

edit: this shot 4X AA 16X AF, all gfx options on high.

edit2: and another, more in line with the composition of the original shot. Same gfx options as above
