Better ones anyway...

I know things like hotlaps are already ranked, but why aren't the race lap times?

I have times entered now for most tracks (if not most cars) and aside from manually checking them against the hotlaps, or other people's stats for that course/car I have no idea if they're a good time. It would be nice to see how you fared against everyone else who has a time recorded for that combo. Instead of just '0:55.67' it could say '0:55.67' (1634/30498)', showing the rank out of the number of people with laps recorded.

I like the idea, because it makes the rank far less attractive for cheaters and tweak/mechanik users. Much better than a list where the people are listed by their times.

I guess this is a +1 then

Im afraid its not easy to make though. I mean, the whole list of pbs would have to be updated if one pb is driven. Prolly a single server just needed for that :|
The PB times will be all held in the one database. The existing LFSworld screens just use a database query to pull up the PBs for that player for each combo. It wouldn't take much to add queries to show the rank and total number of records held for that combo, as this is a function pretty much any database can do easily.

+1
yes, feels like it could be done by simle queries
+1

but, will it be separated from the hotlaps rank? i guess hotlapping will make no sense if it's all in one big ranking

Hotlaps would still have to be used for WR's as they need to be HLVC ok to be counted. IIRC I personally have only ever uploaded 2 hotlaps to LFSW before I got bored of it. So +1 for ranking on pb's as it will show your speed at that combo compared to every other lfs player (instead of your speed compared to everyone who uploaded a hotlap)

Great idea

Under race conditions some people will gain time by drafting others or cutting corners or bump drafting etc. This would make their best time erroneous compared to a person who set their best time with no "artificial" help to improve the lap time. You wouldn't be able to compare apples with apples.

good point, and that should be stated in the statistics page, but still that info would be a joy to have.

Especially on oval...

Especially who think their Drafting time on oval actually means something other than 'they can draft'!

Yeah, this is kinda my point. Person A boasts about being one second faster than you when really they are three tenths slower under the same conditions.

Such stats may have some use but they are not accurate, and in racing every tenth gained or lost means a lot. If we are talking about ranking people based on inaccurate data we have to accept that the ranking system would be a complete sham.
I don't like the ranking idea, but would like something similar to:

'0:55.67 (102.7% WR)'
