Well maybe that makes him different from Lewis Hamilton. I don't think Lewis is a nice guy - I don't think he's the sort of person I'd want to be stuck in a lift with. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is but I'm rarely wrong with first impressions.
I don't see what's wrong with not liking Hamilton? Does everyone NEED to like him? Everyone can support who they want. For me, I'm quite happy with Heidfields podium, and 10 points for BMW. Oh and a Spyker finished \o/
Yeah, I thought I was the best racing driver in the world and now I'm really upset.
On points, but Alonso has been faster at most circuits this year in the two first qualifying sessions, where Hamilton has outqualified Alonso it's been because Hamilton had the lighter car. Even at the Hungaroring when Hamilton was - for a change - quicker in the two early qualifying sessions it's hard to know whether that was down to the tyres - I don't think Alonso ran the option in quali did he?
Nah, I'd just hope to have a syringe full of some potent sedative to keep him quiet until help arrived.
The things going on at McLaren in the last few days have made me lose some respect for both drivers. Ron Dennis should be applauded for his equality policy inside the team, which is so refreshing after the Schumi era.
Instead his drivers are acting like girls. One of them is unhappy that he isn't team Nr.1 and isn't willing to get along with his team mate because he has been beaten by him a few times.
The other one disobeys orders and insults the whole team plus boss on the radio severely enough to make most of the team not even want to talk to him anymore.
Maybe it's just not possible to have two equally strong drivers in one team without these kind of problems? If that's the case then F1 should ditch the whole "team sport" idea and go to two opposing teams inside a team, using the same car. The alternative, a no1 and a no2 driver within a team, isn't even worthy of the label sport.
Ron Dennis already tried that twenty years ago with Prost and Senna.
Ideally and theorically it's a good idea to have two of the best drivers of the moment in the same team. And I believe that Ron Dennis, thus the wole McLaren team, is giving equal chances and technical support to both Alonso and Hamilton, like he did with Prost and Senna.
But pratically it doesn't work. There are other things involved and Ron Dennis should have learnt from the past.
Thats the trouble of having two highly desirable championships, Drivers and Manufacturers. The latter is often considered more important to the teams and sponsors, but usually not the fans.
Ron Dennis is rumoured to have said that he's fed up with both drivers' behavior and if they don't like the equal status policy they are free to leave at the end of the year.
It was a little more complicated than that but yes he pretty much said 'Mclaren have always been like this and will always be like this, if people don't like it they don't have to stay'
That's something I always liked in McLaren. For me it doesn't matter if they screw up a championship or a race because they don't want to have a first and a second guide, just equal opportunities.
I wish more teams could adopt such lack of strategy. I remember that that Barrichello had once to concede a victory to Schumacher in a blatant way, I was with a friend at home. We were extremely angered and we sent an e-mail to the national TV immediately to protest what happened. For sure we were not the only ones, soon after the two TV presenters - with an extremely worried face - were talking about a huge quantity of protest e-mails...
It was funny, somehow. It was the correct strategy for winning the championship, but it was felt as an ugly thing by the majority of race fans.
Yes even Schumacher hated that, but I bet you guys complaining about Hamilton choosing to ignore his teams orders would of loved Barrichello to ignore them and win that race. I know its not the same situation, but the team isnt always right.
I don't think it much matters - they probably exchanged a few f-yous or such cosmetics -basically a 20 y/o kid protégé going hotheaded and disgracing himself towards his 60 y/o boss to whom he owes all his racing career up to date.
New article, it seems Hamilton did not use the 'F word' and he is talking to Alonso again. I expect Hamilton has had to swallow his pride and apologise to Ron and the team, which should be expected after a weekend like that.
