You mean the S1-era client, or the S1 licence?

S1 is a level of content, not a different client. You simply use a licence with an S1 level of payment on it and you get access to the cars and tracks listed on lfs.net.

You can find the number of players online, using an S1 licence, using the latest client (0.5X10), by selecting S1 in-game.

Uncheck the S2 and 0.3 Boxes under Version to see a list of S1 servers. I see you're an S2 licensed user and as such you can connect to S1 servers without changing anything.

currently you just download the s2 client and use your S1 account to unlock the s1 content

he means (i think) he wants to download the S1 version of the game (pre-S2 era) to do something with it

There is patched .exe of old S1 (to be able to unlock them) in the unofficial addon forum i think.
