Well it's certainly no more silly, in fact less so, than having different brand names on the sidewalls of tyres which are all the exact same tyres.
If that had been suggested prior to their inclusion it would have been met with a similar response, and yet there aren't exactly regular complaints at the moment are there? Because it does no harm. The same goes for the wheels, if there'd been 4 to choose from initially then we'd all be quite content with the way it is.
Do I want new rims? Not really. Would I mind if they were added? Not really.
I'm sure nearly all of you pick a rim color combination that matches your skin...
The "I don't care if I race green boxes as long as the physics are good" people should think that small details contribute to create a "real" atmosphere that I think makes the racing experience a lot better.
And small details usually are usesless, but that's why they are called details, they are just a finishing touch to make things better.
LFS is full of those small details (passengers? rim colors? turn indicators? open roof versions? visible tyre deformation?...) wich I think make it special and different than the rest of sims.
For a SW developer (as I've been one for some time), adding small details to your product usually is a way of relaxing your mind a bit from the "core problems" and take some enjoyable rest.
Did you also smash the green dots deep inside the red square?
Finally I realize that the graphics do not count. All you need is a good gameplay or physics. That´s why I switched back to Tetris. Best gameplay so I will never play something else again.
It would be a nice add-on (Deep dish mesh....) but not really necessary, one thing I would like to see is a way to limit the speed it takes to get from lock to lock using a game controller.
But really I want some SSR's or BBS rims! Good ol'e style 15x13 racing rims/slicks on an XRT!!
I recently got the LFS add on called BeSpoke and had some great fun putting new wheels on the XFG XRG XRT. The ones I chose werent ricey, just nice polygons and worked well inside LFS for replays. But when you change the .rim file it changes them all to the same graphic. So after a race or so I just got used to the new .rim file and realised that it was more hastle to do it, but I kept it for special screenshots or replay moments.
I think I just want to see some variation on the track, however minor, so 2 or 3 rim types would be nice too, in my opinion. Sports rims 2 peice so it looks racey and shows a little bit of individuality between the cars.
I guess thats a +1 from me then. Is it? Did I agree or not? Dunno!
BeSpoke is pretty cool. Sadly all of my custom attempts looked crap, but some of the presets are really good. Just having to remember to load the prog, load LFS, switch out, apply the design and switch back is a bit of a pain.
I still think a selection of rim styles for the current wheel sizes would be a nice addition. With the number of BeSpoke presets out there it's not like we'd be short of options eithere
I find it quite comical that the one who spouts off about going "after your spelling and grammar" then goes off and talks about what I assume is the entire wheel and calling it "rims" .
I saw very little difference in the rims of the 4 examples of wheels you posted earlier .
Anyway, if the choice can be "tasteful" then obviously +1 even if I won't use it, but IMO it should apply to racing modified models only (XRR, FZR, etc)
I think you would find more differences on "track day" cars such as the road cars we have now with the wheels than you would with the race prepped cars.
On the road cars, no one would be going to the track on heavy factory wheels. Anyone tracking their road car would have a lighter aftermarket wheel, and the various styling would be quite different.
I have to disagree there
I guess that Scawen has always intended to have a variety of different tyre types (physically different rather than just aesthetically), so when he wrote the code for adding a logo it was a no-brainer to make it selectable - don't want to have to re-write it in the future.
Conversely, he probably doesn't intend to have different alloy compositions for wheels, and the difference in rigidity between different designs is subtle enough that its insignificant for a current PC sim.... so there is no similar reason to have changable rims.
@ the guys who are saying they want to have a purely aesthetic choice of rim, but 'not rice', thats ridiculous !
You guys obviously just wanna pimp up your ricemobiles - just remember, IT WON'T MAKE YOU ANY FASTER !!!
:riceboy:
My guess is it will probably come at some stage - when there is a big update to graphics code most likely... in a few years ?
IMO its not important enough to do until that code needs other work done to it at some point...
NO WAI! I didn't know that! I thought that adding stickers gives you more horsepower! Oh no! My world is coming down crashing upon me! NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Sarcasm aside, seriously, having a choice of rims would be nice.
(Seriously, these old schoolers sometimes are really stuck up: "You want to change a rim? ZOMG NOEZ ITS RICE!!" "But look,it's the same rim you see on a race car" "ZOEMG NOESZ U HERETIC DIE U RICE BURNING HEATHEN!!!!!!" "But why I should not have complete personalisation? I mean, we already have skins, wich serve no purpose except aesthetics but..." "NO HERETIC HERETIC HERETIC I CANT HEAR YOU I CANT HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA !!!!!!" ect....)
I think the OP would probably mean changeable wheels though... sadly, the quite stupid nfsu series of games refer to wheels as rims... therefore I thought that different wheels could be nice (who gives a flying **** about rims )
