LFS Questions
I have been playing with the demo and having a great time, but I have some questions. I have played racing sims off and on for years, but just now tried LFS. I am almost sure that I will buy S2 after I build a new PC.

1. After I buy the license what are the "Pick me up" races like? I really don't have time for a league and to set aside a specific time to play and it is random when I do get time to play. The races on the demo servers seem about useless with people leaving, having bad connections and wrecking you.

2. What is the maximum ping time that is OK?

3. Their was someone that was obviously cheating last night. He was at least twice as fast as everyone else. Is their less of this after I buy the license?

1. Pick-up races are huge. Lots and lots. The American userbase is growing too, so finding races shouldn't be too hard. Peak times remain European evening times though. Wreckers are much much less common in S2.

2. About 300, but realistically <100 is best.

3. Demo users are much more likely to cheat/hack, because they are relatively untraceable, and don't 'get' LFS. S2 users have a username tied to their money, so cheating is going to get them banned, thus there is almost none.

I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy LFS as a driving experience, and as long as you appreciate how LFS is developed (i.e. at Scavier's own pace, more for the fun of making a playable yet realistic simulator, rather than for money or glory) you'll enjoy that side of it too.

Same here. There are always occupied servers to join, but to be honest it's mostly the same car/track combinations being used over and over again - LFS racers are rather set in their ways. It's better than most sims though, where you're lucky to see half a dozen people online unless it's been organised in advance!

Sub-100ms always seems fine for me, but again our American racers will be able to give you a better idea because they probably have more experience of joining servers with poor ping times. Most servers are hosted in Europe, but the western contingent has been growing recently.
From where I am in north america, a vast majority of servers give me a 170~ ms ping, and those are usually alright in most cases, higher gets a bit sticky, and lower is better.

They always have crappy internet connections in psychiatric wards.
Damn those metal walls, blocking my Wi-Fi connection.

Try posting your specs, then we can tell you if it's good enough or not

Best way to see if it'll run is to try the demo - www.lfs.net
That doesn't look good to be honest (without even seeing the other specs)... I'd be surprised if it would be playable on that rig... That said, the best test whether or not it'll work on your PC would be downloading the demo and test it with a reasonable amount of AIs (about 6-8) and see if that works...

Learn reading before you get all defensive. What he said is true. He did nowhere state that all demo users hack or wreck or are bad people or whatever. It's just that demo racers are much more likely to do so because of the reasons he mentioned.
Go into your LfS-Folder and open cfg.txt... Then, look for Screen Info, my values look like this "0 75 1280 1024"... I suspect the 0 is for full screen, the 75 is the refresh rate and the 1280 1024 are the resolution... Try changing your values to "0 60 640 480", if that doesn't work, try the 1 at the front... You then should be able to start the game and can change the resolutions in the options...

The pick-up races are really good. In fact, they're the reason I'm still playing after all this time. I can't actually find any good leagues to join, which is shame, but on an average night there are countless packed servers to choose from, so I always get a good race when I want one. Often it can get a little annoying, as someone said, because there are a select set of tracks which are very popular and get raced to death. There are also good places like the CTRA servers, who have a rotating track system which often chooses unusual tracks and configurations that you might not normally try.

If someone cheats in S2 you can report them and they'll get banned from the game by the developers.
i got a question
were can you report some one when its a demo player , i saw some 1 cheating his name is ...... may i post names here ??
No.

A) We don't allow naming and shaming on these forums

B) In the case of deme racers, they can change their name to anything; so the name means nothing anyway.
