Ok, here it is, I finally got round to making a movie .
It may be a little rough around the edges, but it's good practice, and we all have to start somewhere .
I have new respect for you movie makers, it ain't simple to get something half decent .
This is the result of 12GB's of footage from the fourth round of the Irish National Championship, with a bit more time and patience I could tidy it up a bit, but as it is, I don't think it's half bad .
Anyway, enough of the rabbit, watch the damn video!!!!
Enjoy
The camerawork was a bit rough at times, but a very nice video overall
There have been a lot worse first tries.
Yeah, how can you "unroughen" (not a word I know) the camerawork?
I dunno, but recording everything at half speed and using the built in "view smoothing" (to be found in the Shift+U options) might help.
Everything was recorded at 1/2 speed, then put through Vdub, I'll have to investigate the view smoothing.
Cheers
Heh, then at quarter speed
Though I don't mean this for smoothing out the video itself (which is a nice side effect) but rather to give you more time doing the camera stuff. Especially if you start using the view smoothing which makes everything lag behind a bit (or a lot, depending on how much you use) you have to anticipate what the view will do and when it will stop moving. Recording at a slower speed should then help you avoid overshooting your target, for example.
hey its a good vid mate better than alot of stuff out there
Very good for a first attempt, you should be proud . who's the music by I have never heard them before?

Great video to be your first attemt on making one, so consider it good
I didn't get bored of watching that so I think it's a very good video for a first try.

Good jooob.

Dan u teh man!...nice vid.

...although for me when ppl make vids and use panning camera shots it takes away the realism, eg. when you where using the external views behind the car - it just doesnt work imo.

The best ones i've seen use a mixture of track-side shots, helicopter shots, and lots of static shots from the bumper and beside the wheels looking backwards...like irl

More crashes too....to explain the 'story' of the race more
Ways to improve:

Find "MPR Message Block" line from your cfg.txt and change the value to 2 (blocks all messages, chat and pit/join/disconnect).

Try using half or less playback speed while recording and remember to limit fps from within lfs (10 or 15, depending on the hardware you have and what you have set in recording software) with vsync on (or off if you still get stuttering cars in user camera, can't quite remember how it was).

In user camera mode, add camera smoothing (0.5 or more).

Adjust FOV in cameras where it can be of advantage (4 and 5 for zooming in, 6 and 7 for zooming out.), also try using some overhead user cam where you see it might serve a purpose (press tab while in user cam). Also try not to clip car models, it's uncool.
