Quote from The Very End :I have to admit, that seson 1 of LOST was great, mainly because it has some sort of a plot, and you got known to the person. But seson 2 was bad, and 3 is a big pile of crap, I feel sorry for the channels that sended episodes from lost season 3, what a waste of good TV time.

Rubbish, season 1 of LOST was waaaay too dragged out.
Ooh, there's a hatch in the ground. Should we open it?... How do we open it? That's such a lame plot. Nothing really happened until season 2. If you can't see the plot in season 3, that's because you haven't payed attention/watched everything. Half way through season 2, the introduction was complete and stuff started getting properly interesting. I guess some people just WANT to watch soap operas though. I recommend Days of our Lives and The Bold and the Beautiful to you - my mom watches them, I nearly puke when I have to be around the TV at the time when it's on.
Yeah I am watching Heroes on bbc2 as well. I was bored and found myself flicking through the channels when i stumbled upon a girl killing her self, from them on i started to watch and it has been quite good.

But knowing America and their tv they will ruin it. Season 2 is starting soon but apparently they have already planned a spin off from the series. They will just go overboard to make as much money possible whilst it is getting the high ratings and viewer numbers but they will just make people sick of the show....

Lost has turned crap and I agree that the first season was the best.

mad
The only good shows on TV are 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart' and 'Penn and Teller's Bullshit.'

Everything else is crap.
Quote from DarkTimes :Summer Glau FTW!

Quote from Greboth :Agree Although she seems to be type cast as a crazy person lol.

Loved Summer in Firefly and just stumbled on The Sarah Connor Chronicles while browsing her pics on IMDB. I happened to notice one particularly good pic of her and it was for that show. Downloaded the first episode and watched it, was alright I suppose, basically what I expected.

Ironically enough, the reason I was even looking her up again on IMDB in the first place was because I noticed her in a movie as I was flipping through the channels, some silly one called Mammoth on the sci-fi channel. If it's got Summer in it, I'll watch it.
Quote from Forbin :Loved Summer in Firefly

That's only where I know her from, Firefly and Serenity, but she is wonderful in those. It was a hard show to steal the limelight in, but she just about does it. Especially the fight-scene at the end of Serenity, she is like a God in that!

Penn & Teller is quite bullshit itself, after the 1st season they ran out of proper subjects. It's still quite funny if you don't take it as the truth.

Lost and Prison Break are two shows that I like to bash often. Both are very similar, exactly the opposite to what kind of series I like. On both series, nothing makes any any logical sense because the "world" inside in the series is only there to be a sand box for the screenwriters so that they can continue the neverending plotline. Especially Prison Break relies so much on the endless lame anti-climax cliffhangers in the end of the episodes. Characters are thinner than a pancake and the mediocre soap opera acting doesn't help in that area. I don't exactly know how I still watched also the 2nd season of Prison Break, maybe partly just to see how stupid it can get because I never actually liked it. In Lost half of the first season was enough for me.

For me my series "carreer" started when one of my team mates gave me the first 12 episodes of Lost, from then on i was hooked on lost. Season one was great, after years of mindless series (at least on the tv) finaly something new came . Season two was a little disappointg, but still more entertaining then that other crap on the TV. Season 3 was the best so far, liked it sooo much and now we have to wait a half year for the next seasons :/ .

Then along the way came Prison Break, saw the first episode on the TV, after that i called my friend who has boradband connection and asked him to download all the available episodes. My dad , who usually doesn't watch TV series got so addicted, that every week on tuesday when he came home from work he asked: "have u downloaded the new episode ?" So it also became a kind of family activity . I think the acting was great, can't see what was wrong with it. The characters are lovable, i especially liked the characters of John Abruzzi (btw there are rumors he is going to show up in Lost d: ) and Alexander Mahone .38 days remaining till the next episode

Then finaly i got a faster net connection , so i could download series myself. Somehow i stumbled upon Jericho, which was quite good at the beginning , then some not so good episodes came, but finaly the last few episodes vere amazing , can't wait for the next season.

Then came Heroes , got me addicted after the first episode also. Hiro ftw!
I also started to watch Rome, but stopped after a few episodes .
They all are simply amazing series , they all do their job perfectly , which is to entertain !
@Matagyula

Sweet, we have the same taste in TV programmes .... Lost and Prison break are my favourite shows on TV, just wish they would hurry up and put them back on

I think a lot of people have the same taste like us

What comes to Abruzzi (Peter Stormare) he did a good job but biggest screwup you can make in casting is to choose non-Italian-American (excluding Marlon Brando) to play mafioso

Quote :they all do their job perfectly , which is to entertain !

Indeed, that's why I think tv series could be easily be divide into two categories... entertaining series and to so called quality series ("quality television" is an actual term).

If you think so then I advise you to watch The Departed and also Find me Guilty ( "Find me guilty" may not be that hardcore mafioso film, but watch it anyway )

Well by my standards i could call a lot of series "quality series"
I think Prison Break is ok. The first season was really good and the second season was good too, but I fear that the third one will probably get totally melodramatically boring. I hope not, but that seems to be the way things goes with TV series. And Lost? Well I didn't start to see it til the second or third(?) season and well I'm not really interested in it.
I like My name is Earl. That show is totally off the wall.

"TV the drug of the nation. feeds ignorance and bleeds radiation...."

Scorsese is my favourite director but I have still not yet seen The Departed. Just recently saw Infernal Affairs from which Departed was adapted. But as far as I know Departed is about Irish mob...

Quote :Well by my standards i could call a lot of series "quality series"

but that wasn't the point

If you read what it means...

"Quality television (also called "quality TV") is a term used by television scholars[1] television critics, and broadcasting advocacy groups to describe a genre or style of television programming that they argue is of higher quality, due to its subject matter or content. For several decades after World War II, television that was deemed to be "quality television" was mostly associated with government-funded public television networks; however, with the development of cable network specialty television channels in the 1980s and 1990s, US cable channels such as HBO made a number of television shows that some television critics argued were "quality television".
Shouldn't we make a TV shows thread instead?
I like a good comic book movie (Batman Begins is prob the best comic book movie ever made) but HEROES is a really poor quality pile of crap.

Rubbish story's, crap acting...dull dull dull.

It's just another hour of wasted racing time
My favourite TV show at the moment is Dr Who. Been watching the repeats on BBC iPlayer, fantastic!
I just finished to watch the entire Babylon 5 serie again!
It looks old some time but that TV show still rocks
I stopped liking Prison Break when my girlfriend revealed she had a crush on the main character. She was probably getting me back for me saying that I liked Paris Hilton.

My name is Earl is o.k.

The best around at the moment for us are the repeats of The Kumars at No 42. We just go nuts when that show comes on! We are mega-huge fans. The whole family are comic geniuses, especially the father imo.

Ahhhhh.... Bimlaas!!! A festival of flavour in a jar! :chairfall

Also, can't wait for the new Futurama series :hyper:
I dunno. I didin't care for the Departed that much. I didn't think it was as good as Casino or Goodfellas. LOL maybe it's because the best "consultants" Scorceses had are looking at something like 80 counts of homicide?

Everybody Hates Chris (the Show about Chris Rock as a kid) is pretty funny too.
Quote from deggis :... But as far as I know Departed is about Irish mob...

Ups, my bad .

I read that when you linked it first and my comprehension was/is that what other critics , scholars etc. may call quality tv could well be a pile of crap in my eyes whereas other "not_so_quality_TV" may be considered as quality tv by me (apparently Iam no scholar so i might just STFU already about quality tv ) . I may be getting the whole thing wrong, if so , my apologies
One of the best series ever created is The Sopranos.

Heroes is pretty cheesy and unoriginal. Those narrations "The future is filled with promise", "Where does this path lead?" are so funny I can't listen to them with a serious face .

But I still watched all the episodes of the first season, it's some kind of cheap entertainment.

That's very possible too but I've understood that the quality word in the term doesn't always mean definitive quality of the series. I'd see that somehow like in movies the mediocre cheap Hollywood action movie vs. drama movie... but movies are a bit different thing. The quality also means the content, I'm not a fan of 24 but for example it's still a high quality production while the content is the usual "Jack Bauer kicks evil terrorists arses", the content of it does not offer certain kind of in-depth "quality". I don't know how to explain it.

Quote from afastest :One of the best series ever created is The Sopranos.

Can't argue with that
Quote from afastest :One of the best series ever created is The Sopranos.

I'd go so far as to say it's the best series ever created.

Of all the decent American imports we've seen over here (X-files, 24 etc) The Sopranos is the only one that managed to sustain consistently high quality over many years.

X-Files was the best thing ever for three series, 24 was pretty good for two series, Lost ran out of steam after 1 series.

One day I'll have to invest in all the Sopranos DVD's and start watching it from the beginning again. Truly a top class bit of work.
