Time to sort manual clutch?

Quote from Woz :Download DXTweak2 from the following site http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm.

Then on the clutch increase min and decrease max. Think of them as input filters, the pedal still operates over the full range but only outputs between these figures. This lets you configure the clutch to work as you would expect and not over the full range of the travel.

Hmm, does that work for any wheel/controller connected to the PC? I have an old Thrustmaster wheel, and now I remember the reason I tried and quit using it was because of the completely full on and full off of the pedal travel working. If DXTweak2 works for all controllers, I just may have to put the other pedal back on.

cant see why it wouldnt - afaik it was made by Wingman Team for all controllers

Quote from CSU1 :The same effecT can be achieved by using the little "c" beside the axis indicator bar to set the pedal to work a higher point along the axis

Not really, you can only adjust one end of the range with this technique while with DXTweak2 I can move both ends in and make it operate like a real clutch does.

I used the above technique with my Actlabs pro pedals but was never fully happy with it

Quote from Bob Smith :I really wanted to not use DXTweak2 as a solution but seeing as I still miss a good 10-20% of shifts due to the weird clutch in LFS I'll probably do it anyway.

I know what you mean, its a pain having to run it up and load the profile each time you reboot etc. But at the moment, great stopgap

Yes it works for most analogue devices.
If LFS had proper clutch/gearbox simulation I'd be in heaven right now. Will have a play with the DXTweak app tomorrow, sounds promising as a short term solution to the clutch. Still not gotten used to it biting from the instant you start releasing it.

Wonder if the ability to stall cars could be done in a compatible patch..don't see why not, the code is already there to turn the engine on/off..
Quote from wheel4hummer :I haven't driven any car before, but I will be getting my permit soon. But, there is no "bite point" on a clutch. It depends on how fast you take your foot off the clutch. Think about it this way, if the clutch is depressed 50%, and you sit there at 25% throttle, eventually the transmission will be spinning just as fast. By realeasing the clutch pedal more, you are just making the transmission accelerate to the speed of the engine faster.

You are correct. There is not bite point. There is a friction point however. illepall

What profile(s)? Permanently saves the settings for me.

Ah, think I plugged in wheel on different USB port or it just spazed out, appears to be saving the details now. typical.

Its a great improvement now its set up but still think it needs to be implemented in LFS directly
all i have to add is that for some reason i can feel the bite point in the pedal on a punto
the pedals resistance noticeably grows at the bite point much like the two rping design on the dfps brake pedal ... and im convinced its not just an effect caused by the top mounted pedals

although im absolutely sure that i dont use the pedals to feel the bite point even though i could ... a few weeks ago i stalled 3 times when i tried to get the car to move without the feel from the backrest which was set all the way back at the time
thay would be awesome to have that nice clutch feature...to bad I don't have a clutch pedal yet...
bump
Nice useless bump of a dead thread...

But it should be the about time to sort that clutch now when we have false starts. But yes, useless in a way that I'm sure Scawen doesn't need any reminders what possibly do for the next patch, I'm sure he has his hands full.
Was planning to buy this game but...after trying it out for a while with g25, sadly the clutch is not realistic. When at gear 2 to one usually the car would jerk a lot. Its missing here. Also it requires skill for clutch control and here the greatness of the clutch control skill that differentiates racers from n00bs is also missing. Sadness...im really hoping to have some decent stallable engines and vibrations when a person do not half clutch and accelerate properly. Hope this improvement comes soon enuf so that i would buy this game.

No one gives a shit whether you buy the LFS or not.

All in good time. These will be implemented eventually, but like hummer said, nobody cares whether you buy S2 or not. It's better for you to buy it and enjoy it, because these updates may not be coming for a long time. And when they come, you will be ready for them. I mean you've been playing for, what, a month now? Whether the game is realistic or not, it is what it is and that's what you should be enjoying.

why on earth doesn't the car stall when pulling away? The clutch jumps up and down by its self without even pushing the clutch down. now thats 'not' realistic "at all"
well i didnt see that happen before with my clutch.

Thats the spirit!
What happend to the nice and warm community?

If it helps, pretty much every sim is as good (or bad) in clutch simulation. Mostly because before G25, not many players had a clutch pedal in the first place, so there wasn't basicly a need for better clutch sim. Though LFS is lacking even a bit more in this area, like no stalling that many other sims does have. But if you're looking for a sim with superior clutch feature, the answer is that there isn't one.

But LFS lets you totally screw up the timing of clutch, gear stick and accelerator (G25), i.e. wrong order, with no ramifications. Only when I go from from LFS to GTL, does it become apparent.
