Hairpin Help PLease
Hello,

Very new to race car sim driving. I am using a Logitech G25 setup and have LFS set up for all manual driving - throttle, brake and clutch.

I am practicing a lot but have one MAJOR problem - hairpin setups. In general, what should I be looking out for prior to a hairpin such as AS3 eastern side hairpin turns? I try to downshift and brake before the turn but seem to slide off the track to the right on entry to the first turn (the left hand one).

My setups are from the downloads of all setups (I don't have a clue how to do this my self) Car is usually an FXR and I use a setup from the download set for say AS3.

Thanks in advance and cheers,

go onto Conedodgers server, where all the gtr/as3 lovers are. Just look at how they take the hairpins...and try and recreate it. Hope it helps
It could be either of these:
  • You're trying to trail brake too hard
Try to completely leave out trail braking for a while, meaning you completely finish your braking before turn in point, coast to the apex and accelerate once you passed it. Trail braking usually requires really minimal braking input to be effective, or you will just take away lateral traction from your front wheels.
    .
  • You have a setup with locked differentials
Due to probably not perfectly simulated effects of locked differentials, using them is in most cases the fastest way around the track in LFS. However, to drive them fast you need to apply little amounts of throttle all the way through the corner. If you try to steer without throttle you will experience heavy understeer.
    .
  • You go into the corner with too much speed
Brake earlier. It's often misleading if you watch other racers online and try to replicate their braking points. Due to the lag they seem to brake a good 10-50m later than they actually do, so don't let yourself be fooled by that.

I wasn't aware of that, and have got into trouble trying to emulate peoples braking points at times. Good advice, cheers.

Thanks for the tip Andriod, I never did bother about setups. Just downloaded them and tried to drive them. But had been having understeer problems. After your comment, I checked my setups and its just like you said. Now will be trying to see if I can improve my times with your comments.
