The online racing simulator
My top 5:

1. LFS
2. FSX
3. Transport Tycoon
4. Hearts of Iron 2
5. Silent Hunter 3 + 4

Oh right we're in racing games/sims here. Mmm that makes it quite difficult, not the 1st place but the rest of it

1. LFS
2. RBR
3. Microprose GP series
4. GTR2 (because of the real tracks, although the physics kill the experience)
5. TDU (it's fun for 5 or 10 minutes)

Top 5.

1. LFS. Not played long but has the best 'feel' of any sim i've played.
2. GT Legends:- Great cars, and some good downloadable tracks for hotlapping. Not played it online yet.
3. Richard Burns Rally:- Incredibly difficult but really rewarding. Really gives a 'seat of your pants' driving feel.
4. Grand Prix Series (Microprose) - Played this religiously through the entire series. GP4 still holds up well today.
5. GTR2 - Good racer, just not as subtle as LFS or GTL IMHO.

Shamefully I have not tried GPL or rFactor yet. Should have GPL soon, but may leave rFactor due to the comments about it on this forum..
Well, I'm selling my copy of TDU for PC. I paid less for LFS and it is so much more stable than the lets-try-to-port-and-introduce-crap.

I'm done with TDU.

LOL! Played that a few Minutes ago with my Girlfriends Competition Pro

GTL......... but only for the cars.

Ooooh Racing Destruction Set! I still have a floppy (300 K blocks) with a hundred tracks I made for that thing.

Thanks, that was a nice pick me up
Ohh c'mon people... LFS is completely uncomparable to any other GAME. Yes - Game! This word explains something, LFS is not just a GAME, it's something more and way different than all those crappy games with real tracks and real looking cars, who cares that cars looks like real ones if they fell more like spaceships than cars. So I don't know who can compare, there is definitely an enormous gap between LFS and everything else, unless you're a little kid who prefers shiny red car which can be seen in streets over a realism and real racing feeling.
Test Drive is for the casual racer whilst LFS is for the serious enthusiast.
1.lfs
2.Nascar 08
3.gta:sa
4.tdu
5.rbr
1.) RBR - used to play it ALOT, but now kinda not so much, besides my new wheel and rbr my pc cannot take :-/ but when I get to work rbr fine, its so much fun - besides, I think, it is overall better than lfs, but lfs is more all-rounded ...
2.) LFS - hmm, I actually started playing it like often just this year and started liking it more and more...
3.) WTCC - well, was fun for a month
4.) GTR2 - well, was fun for a month
5.) NFSU2 just for teh cars ;D

Nice flame. May I ask who in this thread has claimed that TDU is realistic? Fact is, not everyone wants to simulate actual auto racing as we do. Some people just like gaming as a fun pasttime and like driving games as well. TDU is indeed a game, but no need to flame because people like to game.

Quote from Mike85 :I feel TDU is a waste of time. You race it just to earn "money" and buy new cars. Those cars are in the game just to sell the game.

And why would it be a "waste of time"? Like I said, some people just like to game. So, watching youtube videos, gaming in general, playing sports, watching TV, watching movies, going for a drive, surfing the internet including this forum, would all be a "waste of time". Even LFS would be a waste of time by your logic. I guess if you aren't working and making money, then you are wasting your time, eh?
Test Drive unlimited is either a crap racing game or a really crap and shallow RPG. It might be fun if you want to just mess around and get screenshots of powerful cars in sunny locations, but it doesn't have nearly enough options for actual racing.
However, I think it will serve as a stepping stone so that future games might be able to have "cruise" areas set up where people in "proper" racing games can show off their new rides between races (this was a heavily requested feature in MCO but was never added).

1. LFS
2. Forza 2
3. TOCA 3
4. Motor City Online (RIP)

And that's about it. I had fun getting through the single-player career mode in TOCA3 a while back and I've been enjoying both the racing and the skin-designing in Forza 2 (although the powerful cars are hard to control with a pad). LFS reigns supreme, simply because it feels more natural than any other game I've played. I might look into getting RBR at some point because it comes highly recommended on these forums.
LFS is not comparable to TDU. Period.
If you are talking about Arcade-games, well, here are my Top 5:

1. Flat out 2
2. Powerslide (I still love the memories, hehe)
3. 1NSANE
4. TDU (Watch the video, TDU looks nice)
5. and some more I don't remember the titles

Oh well, and I like DIRT. It's inbetween Sim and Arcade.

He's just telling you how he feels about it, and he seems to be telling the truth. He obviously feels differently about different things. I feel that watching movies can be a waste of time. No really, I do.

Nah, come on man! Movies are the perfect way to cash in those "time spent" coupons with the wife so you can play more LFS

My wife doesn't have a problem with me playing LFS

Of course, mine niether

Wifey: Hey babe! (with that seductive look in her eyes)
Me: Leave me alone! I have 15 more laps! I told you this was league night!
Wifey: Sorry babe, I forgot! C-ya tomorrow night then.

Flatout is just the Havok physics engine with cars put into it.

I don't care about what physics engine. I just had fun with FlatOut

1. ea motogp 2001
2. forza
3. lfs
4. nfs porsche
5. gt2

some for realistic feel, some because they are fun to play, and some because they have a fun balance of both.
Top 5 racers

1 - Live For Speed (Win)
2 - Motorhead (Win)
3 - Papyrus Nascar Racing 2 (DOS)
4 - Screamer 2 (DOS)
5 - Stunts (DOS)

I'll admit i really like Arcade style games, but i was totally shocked when i encountered LFS (far too late btw, about 2 years ago).
I never got anywhere good with a Sim game, the only sim i played lots was Nascar, and we played it just for fun, with 'we', i mean the same teammate [ACR]147-GTA i started the LFS-team 'ACR' with. But we were total shite at it, we managed not much more then 3 laps until we crashed somewhere but we laughed our asses off. Oh man that seems so long ago... Got my first wheel in the time of Screamer2, a Thrustmaster T2.

Now to my surprise I got very good at driving in LFS, the first game where i really thought the physics got anywhere realistic and i could handle all cars in no-time, never ever felt that before, i absolutely LOVE it. Tried all GTR, GTR2, GTL, GPL, rF, WTCC, netKar ... just don't like them at ALL.

But... I always liked the somewhat impossible unrealistic games, they give u something that's impossible in Real Life, i don't need realistic games for that matter, i adore fantasy, so my personal top 5 list of games would be more like this:

1 - LFS
2 - Any good RPG (Two Worlds atmo)
3 - Quake 2
4 - Doom
5 - Sierra Adventures

I grew up with Sierra adventures like Larry, Spacequest, Kingsquest etc. Still a bit weird that i could like those games so damn much at the age of 5 not even understanding a single word on screen, but i did because my dad gave me hints (guess he printed out the walkthrough). Also I started to make pencil drawings of ingame scenes, even more when the new 256 colour games came out. Wonderful time that was, i really felt in heaven when i think about it now :P
Guess i'm not really a simracer at all, but i knew every carbrand when i was very young and i had strong intentions to draw cars. I don't know where this all came from, i just love cars. The more futuristic the better though. That's why i liked arcadegames like 'MegaRace' very much at the time. All rendered scenes, weird looking cars, i think in the end it all has to do with the evolution of graphics, give me pixels anytime. How things are drawn with less pixels and less colours is just beautiful and imagination can fill up the lack of detail. Anyway... I could love ANY game if the concept is right, LFS is one of them and i adore any Trackmania too.
Quote from BruTaLysT :Got my first wheel in the time of Screamer2, a Thrustmaster T2.

I still have my Thrustmaster T2 (bought 1996), and my daughters still use it to drive LFS on the old computer. Though, the 6 year old is now taking over the MOMO with TDU on my computer. She also had her first experience online with LFS last weekend when I told the [noobs] on their Sumo wrestling server that they were going to battle a 6 year old. They didn't hold anything back and slaughtered her, LOL. But at least [noobs]th84 finally had the opportunity to finally beat someone online .
a little late to this, but i have to lol at comparing tdu to lfs, or any driving simulator for that matter. tdu was fun for a little while. as someone mentioned it's understeery as all hell, which added a challenge not present in the nfs's out there. but for all the collecting you can do, and all the roads you can drive on, they sure get boring fast. stick to lfs, it will last you a lot longer, since you profess to be into realism.

my faves at this time (i recently migrated here from the console world, mind you):

1. lfs
2. gtr2 (might kick lfs out when i actually buy it and download the bathurst mod- oh i long for that track again)
3. umm... well i guess i was playing forza 2 until a week ago when i got a mbp and could play pc games. that was pretty fun
4. richard burns
5. toca 2 (wonderful track variety!!)

but i can't imagine going back to the console world, g25 ftw!
