hey hey y'all. new to lfs and been hanging out on the forum for a couple days. wanted to say hi. this game is sweet.

been playing console sims for years, and was happy with them, until my friend showed me LFS and GTR2. the first thing that impressed me was how bumpy the roads are in these games. the car is being constantly upset. awesome! didn't realize the level of realism i was missing until i experienced it first hand.

then there's his G25, which knocked my socks off.

unfortunately i'm one of those mac users, so i couldn't run these apps, and continued to play forza. then last week i bought a macbook pro to expand my musical capabilities, and thought i'd see how these games run in boot camp. well they run surprisingly well, so i went out and bought a G25 the day i figured that out. this machine plays windows games better than i expected! GTR2 demo will run on full graphics, with a full grid of 16 (think that's the demo limitation) with a smooth framerate. i was surprised LFS couldn't keep up as well, as with as few as 5 opponents my framerate would drop to less than 10fps, but after scouring these forums for ideas, i found if i changed the process affinity to only use 1 core, and set the priority to realtime, the framerate never dipped below 24fps, with 20 opponents and many graphic options turned up, and online play is smooth. great success!

so in summation to this long, pointless, and probably boring thread, i just want to say hi! i'm here now, and will probably pester y'all occasionally
Hmm, I have an iMac, which is similar specced (weaker) than the Macbook Pro, and I get nearer to 100 FPS ( about 80 with many cars on screen). It sounds like you may have a driver error
great man, hope to see ya in track enjoy lfs, and said bye to your social life

Hello and welcome!
Welcome!

I just want to say a nice big Thank-You for actually searching to find remedies to your problems. Not enough people do that these days. So, thanks for actually doing it!

thanx for the welcome y'all! but hmm, you get 80fps with a full grid of AI opponents? the minimum i get is about 24 fps, with an average range of 30-50. if i'm hot lapping it's more like 60-200+fps. it would sure be nice to be getting 80fps with a full grid tho. dunno what the spec differences are between our computers, but i would guess that the numbers say my macbook pro should be faster than yours, but there are probably power usage limits in place reigning back the speed. but i dunno, just a theory.
Dustin's probably talking about multiplayer FPS.
yes, online with people I get about 60-80 FPS (depending if I have High-Res Skin DL's turned on or not), and offline, I guess I get about 30.
ah, cool, sounds very similar to my performance. tho i wasn't really watching the frame counter online but i'm sure i was getting higher framerates. honestly i only race the full grid of AI opponents to benchmark the computer's performance. the AI is dumb as hell and quite annoying.
They sure are... can't wait for the updated AI coming in Patch Y

If I might put in a little plug here...

Once you're a bit more comfortable with the tracks and cars and whatnot, you might want to look into the League of the Americas (LOTA). It's the best western hemisphere league going and it's always looking for good new drivers.

Current season is GTRs in a DTM-style series, called the Grand Touring Cup.

OO, a Western world league plug! If I wan't going back to school next week I'd probably throw my hat into the ring.

sweet, right now i only know 1 track well (the demo track), and am working on a handful of others. better with the less powerful cars. i'll check it out when i feel i have something to offer, but right now i'm at the stage of being excessively careful on most tracks, and therefore pretty slow.
