Not enought virtual memory I guess... It happens to me when I play Battlefield 1942.
When you hover over it, what does it say.

I get it in XP and Vista when I run out of Virtual Memory.
Yes, if it's the same icon as XP that's the virtual memory notification. So if you're seeing it a lot I guess the wise move would be to allocate more. Rule of thumb (from what I was told) is to set the minimum to equal your RAM and the maximum to be 1.5-2x your RAM.
If it is VRAM then the icon will probably stay there until you restart.
Could actually be anything from a genuine Windows warning to some spyware really. Have you checked the processes for anything unusual? Does it appear as soon as you startup, and if so does it do it for all users and in safe-mode?
Well, he says that it appears after playing games, BF2 is a ram-whore which is one of the programs he is running, meaning lots of stuff will get sent to the pagefile, so I'd assume that the issue is he needs to allocate more virtual memory.
My mistake - I read the OP as the icon appeared after he'd played and hadn't gone away since. Re-reading it sounds more like it appears every time he plays for a while, and given that the HD only has a few GB left, if the widget is updating, pagefile would be the likely cause.
