I'm not disagreeing with that, but by the same token i could take a picture of my speedo while doing 150 on the M5, and could photoshop it - sure, it should look photoshopped - but what if i happen to be the greatest photoshopped alive?
There is NO way they could arrest him using nothing but that video
Well I'm sure they can probably get a pretty good idea of whether the video is real or not, he doesn't sound like the brightest spark in the world. Yes of course there is a tiny possibility that kind of thing could be faked and but if that's the case there should be evidence or at least a good explanation as to how it was faked and given that it is very unlikely to have been faked I'm pretty sure he'd soon get shot to pieces and will probably know he's better off just accepting it. It's not as though there isn't a chance to hear the other side and mount a defence but TBH a video is pretty indisputable unless proof can be shown that it is infact fake.
He apparently drove past an off duty police officer, who took down the number plate but thought it wise not to chase after him. When he heard about a video being posted on Youtube he saw it was the same one and they arrested him.
What a violation of privacy. How can you prove that the person was going at the speed indicated by the speedometer? A speedometer on a car is not accurate enough to be used to prosecute someone for speeding. The speedometer might have been incorrectly calibrated, for example. You cannot prove that before it was filmed he could have put 30in tires on, therefore making his speedometer read twice as high? How can it be proven that his speed sensor wasn't broken during the video?
Jakg, if that was the case he would have raw material he used to create the fake and would have been able to present it to the police and get off that way.
And if you read and I mean READ he has been arrested on suspicion, which means they have enough evidence to hold him well they create a case as to charge him or not.
Because the car would have been impounded by the police and checked for flaws, if he had the speedo calibrated he would have had records of it being fixed, and 30in wheels would never fit under the wheel arches of a car. Plus you can use maths to work out a cars speed by landmarks, frame rate and time. I can't remember if off the my head, but each lamp post on one side of the road is 20 meters apart, so you could go by them as to speed of the car. The film could have been sped up, but again if that was the case the raw footage would have been collected by the police and examined.
Welcome back to the forums wheel4hummer I was getting bored of sensible discussions anyway
If you're driving at double the speed limit (and therefore easily twice as fast as other cars) you present a huge danger to both yourself and other round users, thing is if you're going that fast you actually have a much higher chance of killing other road users, at least at the ton you can wrap it round a tree but you haven't really got a large enough speed differential with the other cars that you can't loose quickly, IIRC going from 140-70 will take you nearly four times as long as it does to stop from 70-0.
Anyway enough of the safety talk if you want to drive that fast then so be it if you're sensible then you won't be in huge danger if your stupid about it then you will kill something someday. If you're going to do this you don't film it, even worse you don't publicly distribute it. If you can be traced you should IMO get it for doing this.
As for the amount of effort they put in they probably won't need to, chances are he'll come to his senses and plead guilty on the knowledge that he doesn't stand a chance of getting out of it if he can't render an extremely good and flaw proof explanation.
This reminds me of the case of a graffiti artist who the police knew who it was but could not prove it, the 'artist' had put their tag all over the town and it was starting to get a bit of a problem.
So one plucky officer took a chance and arrested her without any evidence, and on the paperwork she signed as she was taken into custody she signed her name....
I wouldn't think so with all that extra wind resistance helping you from 140-70... then again, it might also depend a lot on how much lift your car is producing at those speeds, though I doubt as much--worth checking into, I guess. I agree with the rest of your post.
Just tried it in the XRT to give me a really rough idea. Took almost 4 seconds to go from 140 to 70, and just a wee bit longer actually to go from 70-0.
Because it's easy to Photoshop one frame realistically on a clean photo but making 25 moving frames every second on grainy, interlaced film look realistic is a hell of a lot harder.
