There's the pit lane speed limiter for a reason
Quote from ajp71 :it is about as helpful in the cockpit of a racing car as a houseplant

It depends on the plant... Is Marijuana considered a houseplant?
+1. i'd like this option as well... infact i coulda sworn there was a thread requesting this ages ago... maybe i imagined it.
I just dont see how REMOVING a speedometer completely is a good idea. Even on the track, you need it. You need it to gauge how fast you're going into a corner, how quicly you gain/scrub off your speed, pit lane for no limiter cars (btw, the limiter only works once you get realy close to 50mph, so if you fly in and press it right before the enter line going 100mph, it's not going to help ya.

How can you drive withought one? Confuses the f8ck out of meh.

I never look at the speedo whilst driving, so that wouldn't be a problem for me. As for pit lane speed limits, you might notice he specified "racing cars" which all have speed limiters, but your point about needing to know how close you are is quite valid. IRL you would use rpm to gauge the speed. Drive in 2nd gear at the speed limit, note rpm- simplest way to do it.

That said, I don't really care if the speedo is there or not. It will be interesting to see what Eric does with the interiors in terms of the dashboard.

You're supposed to be going as fast as the car will go! Part of the skill of driving is feeling where the limit is and not exceeding it. It doesn't make any difference what speed you're going as long as long as you're at the limit.

Maybe I just trained myself not to look at the speedo during my GPL days
Dear old GPL, still the benchmark as far as I'm concerned :up: If you've got time to look at a speedo you're obviously not going fast enough
just a little tip, if you want to get rid of the speedos, go into view, custom then make the view look like normal cockpit view (click centre view, then drag the X slider 0.33 to the left or right) and then put the view on "body". Then look below, and there is an option about mirrors and speedos. im pretty sure there is an option to turn the speedo off. im pretty sure you all knew this anyway
-1. i like know how fast i am going. more so i can brag. or sometimes it helps with in-my-head calculations for fuel econmy and such. At least make an option to turn it on.
why would you give a -1 to an option that doesnt give an advantage to other racers?
a speedo doesn't give an advantage. it just helps you keep control.
Quote from Zachary Zoomy :a speedo doesn't give an advantage. it just helps you keep control.

More helps you lose control. By worrying about your speed out on the track, you are paying less attention to your cornering and the limit of your car, whether the car is loose in the rear or pushing the front, etc. If you are watching your speedometer, then you are not looking up ahead of the track at the exit of the corner. You should be focused on the exit of the corner when you are at the apex, not at the speedometer watching your speed.

If you are focused at the correct place on the track at the particular place you are currently at, the speed tells you nothing. If you are at the apex looking at the speed, you are too late to do anything about it, you are already there. The focus needs to be ahead of you where you want to go, not where you are.
IRL racing cars wouldn't have speedos, but they have the benifit of giving you a "feel" of how fast you're going. We could get by with just the tacho, but it wouldn't be the same.

Fuel economy based on how fast your going down the straights? Speed isn't directly connected to fuel consumption and a speedo is a completely useless way of gauging your fuel consumption, looking at the tach helps a bit but what your right foot is doing is by far the best way of telling.

It doesn't make a difference for those that use it, just for those that want a realistic experience or like me find it distracting can have an option to give ourselves a disadvantage
I watch the tacho (or the shift light), I watch the road and I glance at my times and the gaps between me and the other racers. The speedo's there in the GTR but it's unnecessary. If it wasn't there it would be one less thing to distract me. I'm sure Casey Stoner doesn't give a rat's arse if he's doing 335 or 334 kph down the front straight of wherever, as long his pitboard says "-10 Rossi".

Bottom line: if there was an option to remove the speedo, I'd remove it. One less thing on the dash.
if it an't broke, don't fix it.
From a realism point of view, it is broke. I don't see the harm in having a no-speedo option, especially for the open-wheelers. The devs took the horns out of those cars out of respect to realism (and they should do the same with the GTRs), so if the RL counterparts of LFS cars have no speedo I don't see the harm in removing them from the LFS cars.

+1 a great suggestion--simple, too.
+1 watchin it was the cause of a few accidents in my case

it distracts me
+1 for this being an option. Then nobody else can complain about it...

Personally, I might leave it on, but there's no harm whatsoever in it being an optional piece of kit.

Speedos removed from race cars then the dash redesigned with no room for a speedo gets my vote. A nice big tacho will make good use of the space and will make shift points easier to see with peripheral vision.
I know if Im not on the pace on any track, I'll spectate and watch the lead cars in-car to see what they are doing...the speedo tells me I should be going "X" mph through whatever turns. I must say it does help as a quick reference driving aid for us slow pokes. More of a reason to get rid of it I spose.
I have to be honest and say that this is good idea.

I use digital speedo on cars with road tires and FWD GTR's, but RWD GTR's has analogue speedo in my cockpit.
I used to use digital for them, but i was so uncosisted because of that. I'm trying to find way to remove speedo from those but it's imposible... and i can't off all instruments because i still need some of them
Analogue is just so unrealistic on those cars... it would be better if there is nothing, so that's why i say this is a great idea.
And for open wheelers i don't know, i don't even watch that speedo on those cars, mostly because they are too fast

+1
I'd like a fuzzy speedo, much like the fuzzy clock in Linux, for example:
* parked
* granny driving
* town driving
* cruising
* hold your hat on
* speeding
* very fast
* balls of steel
* slow down
* bejesus
* tweaker

i guess +1 for the people who want realism, but id like the option to keep it aswell, i allways constantly look at speedos no matter what car i drive
