The Great Iraq Swindle
Just finished the first page (I intend to read the rest later), and yes it's pretty disheartening. But true. I remember reading into this stuff shortly after the rebuilding started, and the warning signs soon became apparent. Americans should be outraged, and I just feel sorry for the Iraqi people. Not much has changed for them. They get royally screwed by Saddam Hussein, then get screwed just as much, but in different ways, by the US govt. Or to be more precise, the private contractors run by the buddies of the US govt that are appointed to spend US tax dollars in vast quantities to give the Iraqi people infrastructure and services that range from inadequate to downright dangerous. That's if you survive the day's car bombings when you go to get your groceries.

Makes me sick. Bring on the war crimes tribunal at the Hague for Dubya and his chum Tony Bliar. Along with Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Powell, and every other one of the America-raping, neocon crooks that the American public were stupid enough to vote into power.
I'm sure I'm missing something here. Do you mean to tell me that there are people out there who didn't think the whole Iraq / Afghanistan thing was all just one big kickbackfest for the cronies?

Youtube have some very good political commentators. If you can get past the fact that they're "liberals" and actually listen at the facts they present (and they are facts, sadly), it's a good source of info.

Joe's a good man, with some very depressing news:

A very interesting observer.. ex-pat Brit, living in Canada.. but it appears his account has been suspended again. warren25smash, warren2627.. don't know what his new account will be, yet.
What's wrong with being a 'liberal'?

I thought it was only the U.S. that had turned it into a swear word.
Quote from DeadWolfBones :Depressing reading

Holy sh*t! I knew Georgie's mates had their hands in the government's pockets, but I didn't know the thievery was this blatant. (And suddenly, the conspiracy theory about Bush having planned 9/11 doesn't seem so crazy anymore.)

I get the feeling I just watched America start its downward slide from superpower to banana republic.

Mind if i ask why exactly?

Yeah it does.

No, in the US the word republican or conservative is considered a swear word.

Somehow I doubt that.
Quote from STROBE :Somehow I doubt that.

Why do you doubt that?

But what would Bush gain from doing that?
Well of course "republican" is a swear word. Everyone knows the liberal media hates the troops and hates America and wants it to fail in the War On Everything. They know that only the republicans can stop the al-Qaeda Islamo-fascists from bringing their jihad to the United States, so they constantly attack, villify and slander anyone who's a bit right of their slanted leftist worldview. No-spin, reality-based commentators like Bill O'Relly, Anne Coulter, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and others have to fight tooth & nail to get their fair & balanced points of view across in the leftist quagmire that is the godless liberal media. The Republicans are the victims of a liberal media smear campaign that began as soon as President Bush was elected in 2000 and simply hasn't let up. It's a tough time to be a conservative in America and with attacks coming from all sides they have to be vigilant and vocal in getting their voice heard.
Quote from Serpentine :Go on then. Convince us.

If he doesn't respond, I don't blame him. It would simply be a complete waste of time and energy.

But that's just my opinion.
Regardless of whether George pulled off 9/11 (or even had the smarts to do it to begin with), the simple fact is that George & Co. have done everything possible to use 9/11 to push & support every aspect of their agenda (which has been in the works since even before Clinton's presidency), including but not limited to: the Afghanistan invasion; the Iraq disaster; the ironically-named PATRIOT Act; the warrantless and illegal wiretapping of US citizens; the secret detention and torture of untold numbers of people; blatantly ignoring the Nuremberg Charter, UN Charter, US Constitution, the Magna Carta, the Geneva Conventions and just about every other law, both foreign and domestic, which applies to military actions and treatment of prisoners; the awarding of no-bid contracts both in Iraq, Afghanistan and the US itself to companies which have clear and unambiguous connections to Whitehouse personnel; the appointment (or attempted appointment) of Bush cronies to every conceivable office and level of government, and I could go on...

The simple fact remains that, regardless of who was actually responsible for those awful events on September 11, the current administration has done everything in its power to use the phrase "nine eleven" and the associated memories and emotion (and, especially, the fear) to ram whatever it wants to do down the throat of America and the rest of the world.
Quote from DrDNA :If he doesn't respond, I don't blame him. It would simply be a complete waste of time and energy.

Yeah. It's always a futile effort trying to convince conspiracy theorists that they're deluded.

Anyway, this is a really badly written article (as you'd expect from Rolling Stone), but the author makes some solid points and it's just shocking to see how pervasive the corruption is (though maybe it shouldn't be at this point).

Wheel4, "conservative" and "liberal" (and even "moderate") can all be swear words depending where you are/who you're talking to. This is true the world 'round.
i still cant figure how being liberal could at all be considered a bad thing in the self proclaimed land of the free
I guess it means you're free to do as you please as long as conservatives approve of it, i.e.: don't protest the war; don't expect the same rights as straight people if you're gay (actually, don't be gay to begin with - it's a choice you see, and you can be de-converted at your local church); don't be so bold as to live your life without a god; don't question the actions of your government even if they're clearly shady and their motives keep shifting and don't expect that so-called democratic government to actually act like one and do what you, the people, ask of them. The government know best and that's why you (apparently) elected and re-elected them, so shut the **** up and salute the goddam flag, you filthy leftist commie.
Quote from Shotglass :i still cant figure how being liberal could at all be considered a bad thing in the self proclaimed land of the free

All kinds of reasons...

1. Liberals hate Jesus and love killing babies.
2. Liberals hate the rich (who have earned every red cent they have by the sweat of their brows) and love throwing money at the poor (who are lazy and poor because they don't work as hard as the rich). Damn welfare state!
3. Liberals hate America and love those damn Iraqis and Iranians and North Koreans and Taliban dudes and Palestinians and think America deserved to be attacked on 9/11 (by all of the above, obviously).
4. Liberals hate American troops and would spit on them given the chance, even if said troops are their own children, their friends' children, or their own friends and neighbors.
5. Liberals hate the institution of marriage and want to marry members of their own sex/goats/real dolls/etc.
6. Liberals are unpatriotic, for the abovementioned reasons and (more importantly) because they dare question the decisions made by our lord and savior GWB, all praise be to his name. (Remember, "W: The President," as all those bumperstickers I see on the way to work continue to remind me.)
7. Liberals have no star on their bellies, whereas conservatives do. Also, they eat their toast butter side down.
A liberal visited our house one day and a barrel of beer went bad 3 years later!
I once dated a liberal. She turned me gay with constant exposure to leftist propaganda like "Six Feet Under" and "The West Wing" and "iTunes". Thank god there was a drive-thru de-conversion chapel nearby after we broke up! I'm fine now. I still get a bit frisky when I watch Greco-Roman wrestling though.
Liberals, conservatives, communists, socialists, anarchists. We've grown so detached from the real meaning of words that all of these terms have become meaningless insults. George Orwell blamed this deterioration of language as a result of dictatorship. I love Orwell's works, but he was wrong. It was (and it is) lack of faith and of interest in our own abilities, which led (and leads) to delegation of power to people we think are in the know.

Quote :
In our age there is no such thing as ‘keeping out of politics’. All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred, and schizophrenia. When the general atmosphere is bad, language must suffer.
