i need a question answered and i cant realy seem to find what im looking for....im about to buy a PC just to host but i dont want to spend stupid money on a pc/server. ive been offered a 400mhz pc with 96mb ram and a 10gig hard drive.i dont know if a Dedi will work on that and if it does at first how many people would that take before a crash or maybe lag in the game.

When I run a dedicated sever from home, it runs on a PII 350 with 320Mb RAM through WINE as the OS is FreeBSD

The 320Mb RAM I'm sure isn't needed.. it just happens to be in there.

I used to have to restart the LFS server every 4 or so days depending on amount of traffic, but I think that was more to do with WINE than LFS.. so YMMV.

Ian

Yeah that is pretty much about right. I would think a dedicated server will run in what you have, you just have to have the more important Internet.
its ok the pc is a celeron 400mhz with 160mb ram but my internet has upload of 500kbps+
well it depends on alot eg how many people, smothness packets etc to say if the connection is ok for the job
Close all your internet related programs and go to www.speedtest.net That will give you probably the best basic reading to whether or not your connection could handle mass amounts of dedicated servers.
