Tablet Issue
I am new to the Tablet PC genre, and I have a question for someone else who might own one. I have 2 Gb of RAM onboard, but at any one time there is NEVER more than 1.2 Gb free. Even my desktop, with the same amount of RAM and other programs running has at least 1.5 Gb free. Most of the time I have a lot less. Right now, all I have is this one site open in Firefox and I've got 867 Mb free...

...I know it's not spyware or anything bad like that; it seems to be all legit software running. A lot of it seems to be Tablet-oriented stuff (fingerprint reader, tablet buttons, etc...) It's rediculous when I look at that task manager list of processes - its like 6 "pages" worth of stuff!!!

My question is, does this extra stuff really take that much more RAM? Does anyone else with a tablet have this same issue? Or do I really have something hidden deep in my PC (it's only a few weeks old, so I really doubt that.) I'm starting to wish I sprang for the 2 Gb x 1 option so I could stick another 2 Gb card in without needing to buy two new cards...
i've got a HP TC4200 with 512MB and a centrino, and i find the same problem most of the time. tablet pc's are meant to just be basically document recorders, like MS Onenote.

i wish i had at least 1 GB in mine, it'd run better.

Yes.

Also I guess you are running Vista. I'd say that amount of free amount seems pretty normal for Vista.
Nope, I upgraded to XP when I ordered it

I'd suggest giving nLite a go? Perhaps you need to google each process to see if it's actually needed?
This is how you roll Nlite style. Cold boot under 20 secs to desktop, all systems ready to go.

My audio station XP runs about 9-13 processes and uses around 80-100Mb of RAM depending how much MIDI gear I need.
