The ugliest Mercedes of the history
It looks like a Citroen to me. In other words : ugly .
Oh dear. Mercedes who have designed some gorgeous cars in the past have just made a Megane-alike, with it's size 1000 fat arse!

I like the front end though.
a lot of prototype are very ugly, and this one looks like a Maybach,, my personnal opinion -> not ugly at all but special ;-)
That is so unbelievably hidious in so many ways.

*digs eyes out*

Calling it ugly is a compliment ...

Ugly car, beats their previous ugliness record of Merc A-series
Amazing resemblance.

OMG what HAVE they done! i think that made me gip.....
Nah, the bulldog is much prettier

True, it looks like it came trough bottom of something, while merc looks like it came trough bottom of something and was stepped over right after that
What the hell were they trying to achieve with this? It just looks awful, I thought Mercedes were starting to slightly miss the boat with their latest cars, following a short good spree after a string of rather boring and uninspiring cars since the 80s. The Maybach didn't actually appear to be styled, merely just made to look more silly and aggressive with bigger and shinier wheels, since the Maybach they seemed to be going the right way with the mainstream Mercs, then I wasn't to sure about the latest styling cues and then this turns up.

I hope it isn't a styling cue
That car will change alot before it actually gets put into production, all prototypes/concepts are ugly, I seen a prototype bmw on the teley and it looked horrible, when they released it to the public he changed alot and i mean alot.

Sam.
I guess that is supposed to be aerodynamic or something, like the fish car concept they had, ugly but efficient. The front isn't that much different from the current Mercs, but the rear does remind a Citroen. And those wheel arcs makes it look it has legs.
i know those wierd coloured plastic covers for the rear wheels may serve a purpose (aerodynamics?) but they dont help the look of the car. Mind you, i dnot think anything will
Mercedes hasn't made a good looking car for at least 37 years. The late 1950's through early 1960's Mercedes actually are good looking.

This is a good looking mercedes:
/me thinks about the old SL. Yum :P
The SLR was nice. This is ugly beyond belief. I hate modern cars so much.
arr how can i forget the SLR! That car sounds amazing! The convertibel is up for realease soon too, and that looks great
I think it would be a cool thing to have in a Futuristic movie as 'Mercedes of the future' and it does look cool in a 'the year 3212' kinda way but DAMN, thats a step back.
Some googling reveals it has the new Mercedes dieselotto engine, which basically combines parts of diesel engine and regular combustion engine. Rather small, but powerful and doesn't take lots of fuel. So basically, it's just another technology platform. Looks like they are preparing making fast but economical luxury cars so the hippies don't have to complain about the huge V8 engines.
What the?..

It's actually a diesel engine that runs on gas.
Chances of it ever going into production: NEGLIGIBLE

Panic over.
Actually chances of going into production are absolutely none because it is only a research car.

Quote :DIESOTTO provides a glimpse of the future of the spark-ignition engine

The F 700 research car shows new ways to achieve resource-conserving mobility. The heart of the car is the novel drive system which combines the advantages of the low-emission spark-ignition engine with the consumption advantages of the diesel drive.

The diesel engine’s crucial advances to its current combination of dynamic performance and low fuel consumption were made possible by turbocharging and common-rail direct injection – both pioneering achievements of Mercedes-Benz. The “DIESOTTO” drive takes this some decisive steps further: consistent downsizing through reduction of displacement and the number of cylinders makes for improved efficiency, and a hybrid module assists the internal combustion engine mainly in stop-and-go operation. Moreover, the diesel principle with controlled auto ignition (CAI) makes its debut in the spark-ignition engine.
