Best server for BEGINNER
Hello Everyone

I've just got my S2 license and I'd like to know which server should I play on? I'm interested in clean racing and I don't want disturb more experienced players.

I'm looking forward to play on CTRA servers but I don't know if that's the best place for start.

Waiting for any suggestion
This is what i would advise to someone intending to come to the CTRA servers for the first time.

Check what combo the server is running.
Join it and watch a race to see what sort of times the field is running.
Join a the end of the race and ask (politely) one of the front runners for a setup
Go back offline and run some practice laps on that combo to make sure you are familiar with the track and car, and to see what sort of times you are running compared to the opposition.
Join the server and in your first race let the pack get away to give yourself some room to run some clean laps and get a good laptime.

The grid in CTRA servers is ordered by your laptimes in previous races, so at the start of the second race you will be in the pack around racers of your ability.

Then it's just making sure you have good situational awareness. Making sure you know where those that are close to you are at all times, and giving way cleanly if you find yourself in a blue flag situation.
If you cause an accident always apologise and let your victims back past you even if this costs you position.
Don't get involved in silly arguments. (not always easy i grant you, but it gets you nowhere)

Race clean, ignore idiots(unfortunately there's always a few on whatever server), don't get frustrated if you get taken out a few times to start with, have fun, race some more

Enjoy!

This here is a really good tip. Just let the grid disappear up the road and slowly and surely, you will pass people as they crash/spin out in the following laps. From there you will slowly be confident to just start of the grid in the pack of cars.

I would just like to add, it takes little time and effort to just say "Sorry" after an incident, it will often difuse a situation and things will carry on. I have been known to just say sorry even if I don't have contact and got loose in a corner and distracted someone. I've even said sorry when I've done nothing wrong, just because arguing about who did what wrong or whatever is just not worth it. Sometimes I think it takes an honourable and sociable player to admit mistakes. It shows in game i think.
Hmm... I just jumped on a server . Just ask for the leaders setup (Remember to say please ). I recommend starting on the CTRA Race 1. (Beginners Class/Slow Cars). Spec the leader for his lines. And most of all ENJOY!
Well, on my first miles with S2 i avoided joining servers with >12 racers.

Most of the (over)populated servers are manic with lots of racers on it, you won´t learn anything there.

Join "small" grids and have some fun, and always be patient

That's the best advice in this thread so far. Definitely do this! Full servers are crazy and you need lots of experience to get any satisfaction out of them.

You should probably also mention it takes hours and hours and hours and hours and then some more hours of driving the slow cars around the track before you are able to buy an LX4 on those servers.
There is some great advice in this thread. I'm new to LFS myself and have found getting sets from the fast guys and practicing offline first has helped a lot.

DO NOT focus all out on improving your laptimes in a race regardless of everything else. There are times when in a pack that you will have to yeild and take a less aggressive line. You may need to back off from the car in front slightly to get a good view of a fast chicane up ahead. Not doing this in order to maintain a 'fast' lap leads to accidents and people won't appreciate it.

Learn to race clean first, then learn to drive fast, although those two things are closely related anyway. Finishing a race intact will usually get you a midfield position or even better in most cases..

My advice would be to practice offline until you know that you'll at least stay on the track for the entire race. Once you know the track and have got used to the car handling, then you'll be ready to go online.

I don't think your lap times don't matter that much, chances are you won't be really in danger of winning at first anyway. So just drive sensibly and make sure you're always aware when there's someone near you - most T1 carnage is caused by people not looking (or not caring) that there are other cars around them.

But definitely start with low powered cars (you must know how the demo cars handle!) before you try anything bigger. I prefer LRF and below anyway, but obviously the faster you're going, the more costly your mistakes will be. If in doubt, slow down
best thing for a beginner to do is just jump into any server wheres theres active racers.... copy peoples lines and if their kind enough , ask for their set-up... i done that and my times on most tracks we reduced significantly

To start is a great server imo

Thats the point , Few hours with the same car and passing to a more powerful car and another powerful car you learn a lot , when use to be a demo i only drive the XFG , but now with s2 i start from begining with the cars like UF1, XRG , LX4 , y lear a lot and is funny =P

Sorry for my bad english -.-
