Broke my headphones :(
Hey all...just a little whining thread here, I had a set of Creative headphones, I went to untangle the wire just now and it came away in two pieces. I'm using another headset for now, but dunno how long that one's gonna last

I'm just pissy about it as it's partly my fault (for letting the wires getting tangled) and partly Creatives fault (for making shoddy hardware), I now know two people who have had this happen to them, idk what to do. I'm loath to spend any money, my parents just bought a house, and I don't want to go buying stuff that they'll bitch at me for saying 'you should have saved it for the house'

Ideas?

DK
Repair them with epoxy and fiberglass?
I didn't think of that. The wires are clean snapped in two, would it make a difference?

I'm willing to give it a whirl though

Solder some new wiring there then to extend it a bit so you have room to work with the shell.
:S No solder. If I got some, I'd give it a go.

Soldering's one of the few ways I ain't hurt meself yet :P

DK
If you can't/don't have solder then crimping them will work (albeit with some potential for distortion) it'll at least save you some money. If you haven't got anything to crimp with then you could always strip back the insulation and twist the wires round each other then cover with insulation tape, with the low current involved in headphones it's not risky to do this.
I can steal sellotape and repair 'em. Or try to

I noticed the wires are poking through the insulation at some points

DK
The sellotape will likely be too stiff and end up sliding away from the join or just breaking the wires again. See if you can get hold of some insulation tape (electrical tape) if you do go down the low-budget repair route
IMO Creative products haven't been even decent on this millenium. You should feel happy because you can now get rid of them
@frokki: I am gonna

@whoever answered above Frokki: I'm trying to repair 'em, or else they go on ebay under novelty items :P

DK
Just buy a new pair of headphones...

Heat-shrink tubing is your friend. Cheap, durable and - a feature not most electronic buffs are willing to admit to - tastes great with mustard. Get yours today at any electronics supply store.

I bought a HS 300 Headset for 12.99€ 3 or 4 years ago, and it still works
i gots a set of sharkoon headphones... good for ts and cost me 20 euro... much better sound quality then anything in its price range let alone the top end the price range ( imo )
Niko, I'm not 100% sure what model they are, but it's the headset with an integrated mic

(Wait...just contradicted myself again :S)
Get some Sennheisers
