I've searched and searched and searched and searched but there's nothing that applies to my situation when it comes to trying to get administrative rights on Windows XP. I've been practicing fiddling around with the command prompt and Safe Mode on extra "dead" and unneeded computers at school, and have been successful at logging into the local Administrator account and all, but here at home, I'm just stuck.

My primary computer, the one I use for everything, is shared between my mom and I (long story, yes, I used to have my own separate computer). My dad, being the techno guru he is, has found EVERY way possible to keep me from using any tricks out there to get administrative rights. He's somehow found a way to keep me from being able to boot into Safe Mode (I can get to the Safe Mode selection menu but can't change boot settings), and waay back before he locked the Safe Mode menu, he had already gotten a password on the local Admin account.

All I really ever wanted was my own administrative account on my own computer, but since my father has deprived me of the one thing I really ever wanted back, my computer, I'm screwed.

Can anybody out there help? I've searched through pages and pages of Google and other search engine search results but have found nothing but the same old "hacks" that just don't work for me, given my kind of situation. Help?

Just insert an Ubuntu live CD and boot from that.

(Um, your dad probably disabled booting from CD, and passworded the BIOS.)

Booting from CD is enabled, I actually asked him one time if it could boot from USB and he said "no, but CD, yes."

Startup -> F8 -> Safe mode -> administrator -> control panel -> user accounts -> yours -> change account type ->

If you read, his dad has locked down that administrator password.

However, if he hasn't, try restarting normally, and at the Welcome screen, press "Ctrl+Alt+Del" and then type in "Administrator" with no password, and it might let you in.

Nope, prior to him passwording the BIOS, there was already a password on the local Administrator account -_-

Why do you want to get admin rights anyways?

Well yeah, open up the case, remove the bios battery for a while or reset the bios, that should get rid of the bios password if you want to.

Also, boot from a Linux live CD and you have access to all files on the Windows partition. If you find the password file, it should be possible to decrypt. I haven't ever fiddled around with that stuff, so I can't say for sure. Google is your friend.

Its hard to retrive a password for an account, but easy to replace it. Temporary access could be gained in a matter of mins by booting off a Linux live-cd (or a Windows PE-based one), and resetting the password for the administrator account. There even exists downloadable live-cd's designed specifically for this for NT OS's.

Why doesn't your dad want you to have an Admin account anyway, is he just worried you're gonna mess up the computer, or is it a punishment for something?

My dad never wanted me to have an administrator level account either, and I dunno why. I just went and bought my own computer after a while, that helped thigns a lot.

Forget hacking windows xp. Just take the hard drive out and hold it hostage. Then bargain with your dad for admin rights, or else the hard drive mysteriously breaks/disappears.

Or, just buy yourself a computer or a laptop.

Maybe you should just forget about your precious admin because really it doesn't restrict that much and anything that is restricted that you need is just a matter of asking your dad for 5 minuits of his time....

I used to have the same problem with my Brother, he just likes to always get 1up on you, in ANY situation. Nothing really bothered me, apart from the fact that i couldn't play any games with PB, because you need Admin Privilages, on your O/S, which is bullshit to be honest. I am starting to think thats why you need the Admin rights. To be honest, maybe he thinks you will go on naughty-naughty sites, but to be honest, he could let you use the computer, just moniter when you are actually on it. I think he's pretty petty for doing something like that, but if it IS his computer, what can you do?... what can you do?

But actually, there's a whole lot that you're missing without an Admin account, a lot of programs, especially games, won't even run. Even with a power user account, there's a lot of functionality disabled.
