I followed a tutorial on Master Skinnerz and cant seem to find the default skins to edit.

Ive looked on the LFS/Data/Skins folder to find it empty other than one Readme...

Am i supposed to edit the DDS files?

They aren't there anymore with the X patch. Download the CMX viewer http://www.lfs.net/?page=addons it has the defaults skins as jpg and it's the viewer as well.

The Master Skinnerz kits also include the default skins.

could u post the default skin for the XFR because I acidentally painted over it and now i got no default skin!
