OT: LOL at Dr. Ullrich. I feel he might be out of his job after that one.
Mustonen often shows good speed in F3 (Euroseries and British I think).
All finns are gonna kill me for saying this, but Nico Rosberg is half-finnish. I´d rate him pretty high up.

And btw, according to our F1 commentators Hamilton is at least 1/4 finn cause he spends so much time here...

Yes, his Dad's Finnish, his Mum's German, he can speak English, German, French and Italian perfectly, but not a word in Finnish.
Last F1 race, what I heard from the TV commentators somewhere during the race:

On Finnish TV - '...here is 3 drivers in top 10 who own a Finnish passport...' (Kimi, Heikki, Nico)
On German TV - '...there is 2 Germans in top 10...' (Nick, Nico)

...or smth like that. Everyone looks from their perspective.

About young Finnish formula drivers, how about Sanna Pinola?
Quote from J.B. :Toni Vilander was promising but is no longer in single seaters. Currently I don't know of a quick Finn in F3 or GP2 though.

Vilander is currently in FIA GT (GT2). Leading the championship actually. Was about a time to get a quick non-F1 driver.
Quote from Aquilifer :Are you a Swede? During his racing days Swedes constantly tryed to 'own' him. Even he was born in Sweden he was (and is) Finnish.

His 2nd name is Also Swedish, so you got odds against you with that. Maybe Marcus Grönholm will also get 'owned' by Sweden :P

Saarinen... hmm. There is a female Finnish skiier... Cross Country... Aino Kaiso Saarinen? or... something like that.. Anyone know if they are related?
Henri Toivonen.
From the older drivers I would defenately say JJ Lehto and maybe Mika Salo. Salo had his chance with Ferrari and did pretty well especially if you look at how little practise he iirc had with the car but sadly never got a good deal. Signing to Toyota was defenately a wrong move which basically ended his career in F1. JJ never really had the chance and since then he has said that he came back to F1 way too early after his accident. He has won the Lemans 24h once or twice after that which is still one of the hardest races to win so he, at least, had some potential.

Rosberg isn't exactly a Finnish surname but did you know that Finland had two official languages? Swedish is the other one. 5% of the population are Swedish-speaking. As far as I know Rosberg wasn't but the surnames go way back in history...

Dunno but Saarinen is quite casual surname.

Quote from amp88 :Henri Toivonen.

Huh? He had some F1 tests but he chose rally.

Twice, 1995 and 2005
Deggis, I was aware of the Swedish speaking Population in Finland, there is a flag to represent this isn't there? It is a red flag with a yellow cross, it looks like a mix of the Swedish and Danish flag.

Also, there is an Island, inbetween Finland and Sweden, and although 'owned' by Finland, the population of this island speak Swedish? It's called.. ålund I think, or something like that
You guys

Ari Vatanen

Ummm...really can't remember seeing such weird flag. Swedish as a second language is a joke though, I mean it's the second official language because we were invaded and part of Sweden hundreds of years ago and 3% of the current population speaks it as their mother tongue. Some of them, big families, are rather loaded with money though, so it might have something to do with the fact all teenagers get Swedish stuffed down their throats in school and really start to hate the bloody language.

And that island is called Åland, it's an autonomous part of Finland, but if you didn't know that you would mistake being Sweden though.

edit. Ari Vatanen isn't really a F1 driver is he?
Quote from ajp71 :Well it's near Finland

Magnussen was rubbish in F1, he never delivered.

Thats my related uncle , well if you look at Barricello right, When he droved with Jan , he was like only 1or3 Posistions infront or in Back while driving the Stewards , and remember First time Jan drove a formula 1 was the marlboro McLaren

You mean this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish-speaking_Finns#Identity

It's unofficial flag.

Åland has official flag: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%85land

Now just only question pops up... why in the world are you so interested about geography of Finland?

ps. Vatanen is also rally champion, from 1981.
Quote from deggis :

He raced quite a lot of single seaters early in his career. With the right amount of application he could have gone far in anything he chose I think.

Maybe we really are the fastest nation on earth... who wouldn't be interested?

No, that is Tom Kristensen, sorry

Yea, both those flags are what I was talking about. Just because I have knoledge of Finnish geography, means I'm interested in it? Not really, but the truth is, I am interested, I love everything from Scandinavia, except Danes, because they are gay no, Danes, are cool too, but everyone North of Denmark I prefer
