Hi people,

As you may or many not remember i built this setup/rig at the start of the year.

It's been trouble free for 7 months now and just wondering with the fall in prices here and there what the next route people would do

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4ghz) Socket 775 FSB1066 4MB Cache
Asus P5N-E SLI 650i Socket 775 Onboard Audio AT
250 Gb SATA HDD
Inno3D GeForce 7600GT 256MB TV Out DVI Core 560MHz Memory 700MHz PCI-E
Corsair 1GB Kit (2x512MB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 (TWIN2X1024A-6400) CL5-5-5-12
Corsair 520V PSU

should i be looking to upgrade the memory? for LFS it is fine, but for movie editing and photoshop etc its kind of hangs a bit on the larger stuff?

If i do, should i get another 2 x 512 sticks of the same stuff (£40) or should i look to go with 2 x 1 Gig of something else. what would people recommned?

Also, how ancient is the grafics card, is it worth an upgrade to a 8800 yet or just wait until i actually get round to playing other games apart from LFS.......

Cheers,

Dru.
Save your money till you know your system is no longer able to cope with the new games.
I know you don't want to hear that but it seems your pc is generally able to do most stuff ok so why spend on upgrades when it's not really necessary.
Treat yourself to a new mouse mat if it makes you feel better.
Then buy the new Ipod nano instead.

lol,

ok, lets centrer this around the memory only question..... 1 gig is not enough for movies and photoshop skinning - should i go with 2 gig via the runnuig 4 x 512 option or go with another brand/non-brand 2 x 1 gig?

2x1 gig or even 2x2
Hm, i have a quite similar system, in fact i'm upgrading to 2GB DDR2 (are Corsair TWIN2X kit 2x1GB PC6400 800Mhz-444 XMS2 EPP compatible with a P5B Deluxe), because 1GB simply isn't enough for FSX and occasional photoshopping (well, paint.NET)...

Your best bet would be to get 2 GB of the same RAM and sell your current kits

The best bet would be 2x 1 GB

I'd recommend either this or this.

The first one would be the best.

If you want more performance i'd ditch the 7600GT for something quicker, whether that be an 8800GTS, 8600GTS, or the 2900 Pro - if budget allowed i'd go for the latter.

IMO more ram IS a good idea, but i'm not sure if you need anything more if your current setup does all you need.

Overall the priority for upgrading would be more RAM>Better GFX>Better Wheel/Better Monitor>Faster CPU.

EDIT - 2x 2 GB = Not only overkill, but also more than a 32-bit OS can properly handle.

That memory should work, but i'm just not a fan of the XMS range *shrugs*

Sorry to bump this again, but this RAM freaking owns, and Corsair just cut 25% off the price.

Lovely low timings, rated at DDR1000 at slightly higher timings, too...
