That thing would freaking own!

EDIT - ignore me, I should scroll down more.

Oh c*ck.

Note to self - Check if Scan have the E2180...
Thats not much of a "Ultimate PC Build" There's still much to get for a complete system. Mouse & keyboard, monitor? And if your going low end, why get a P5K? I can think of a few other motherboards that would work better...

It's not ultimate, but you usually have a monitor, mouse and keyboard.

I picked the P5K, because in the language of the 1337 overclockers:

P5K (Up to 600 fsb!) + D9's (Chips in the Ballistix - good for DDR1100+) + E2160 (Great overclocker) + Arctic Freezer/AS5 (Good cooling stuff) = Win (...or up to a 3.2 GHz OC, whichever you prefer :P)
Yes, I know the P5K has teh uber skillz on the OC. But what good is 600fsb for an E2180 on blah air cooling? And I seriously doubt the buyer of that system would want to spend the extra on RAM that goes that high. It would make sense if there was watercooling, or phase-change, perhaps a G0 Xeon or Quad, and 1333mhz RAM. See what I'm getting at?

I'm not so sure about the E2160, but my E4300 does 3,3GHz on air with the stock cooler. I don't see why getting a good motherboard is such a bad thing.

E2180 should break 3 GHz on that, and the cheapest DDR800 RAM i'd trust is £42 + postage - why not spend an extra tenner for memory that will do nice clocks and have a higher resale value?

If you were going to run 1:1 ratios this is a little ott, but i've never seen any proof of they're being a disadvantage to running the FSB of the memory higher than that of the CPU
Neither have I actually. I've heard rumors, but nobodys been able to prove much of a performance gain running the RAM faster then the FSB. Guess it's something I'll try when I get the rest of my shit together for a build. So far I'm throwing a Xeon X3210 onto a Gigabyte DS3-L, dropping the Scythe Ninja Rev. B to keep it cool, and probably an 8600 GTS to rape it's cooling and violate the PCB. Still in planning stage, but I'm happy I'll be able to buy a new system soon.

Updated, it's now £650, but all the parts are not only in stock, but you also get RAID, a garantee'd M0 stepping and a faster CPU.
Quote from Jakg :It's not ultimate, but you usually have a monitor, mouse and keyboard.

If you have that, chances are you already have an OS ready to install too. And several terabytes of porn ready to copy over.
What's the big excitement anyway? I mean if you had £650 burning a hole in your pocket, needed a new PC, had a keyboard, mouse, monitor and a box of kleenex, you might be tempted; otherwise?
^It'll help with the "Help Me Build A PC" threads. I'll probably draw up a couple 'bundles' for us North American's and post them soon. Maybe we could make a sticky filled with the best "budget" "average" and "high end" PC's and parts (per land-mass). That way new-commers looking for build advice have the general up top, and ask more specific questions in their own threads.

/nervously puts on flame suit
I'd rather people went to a computing forum for all that, rather than a race sim forum.

It looked good, until I saw the ATI graphics card :P

/me is not a fan of ATI cards in the slightest.

Yea I agree, nVidia has come and will be THE best. Woohoo vote for NV! Fastest Graphics Cards on the planet!

Technically ATi have the fastest cards if 3DMark06 is your measure...

(Yes, i know that they were cooled by LN2, and that it was on a Penryn!)
Just to clarify, im nVidia and Intel fanboy so..... Yeah I know what you guys (maybe) are thinking, but well being nVidia and Intel fanboy suits for me, so I can live with it hehe
I really think you need to caveat, that this would be the Ultimate once you overclocked.

Still good if you don't, but not nearly as strong as it would be with 100% CPU OC.

edit- I see the cooler now, AC7, the standard.

It's not slow when stock, but the GPU overclocks to XT speeds with "ease" and that CPU/Memory/Mobo is good for 3 GHz, which just adds to the re-sale value.

The memory deal ended though, just as i was putting my kidney up on eBay for 4 GB of RAM
