G25 Issue (steering axis not working) :(
Hi,
For some reason I can't get the steering axis to work in LFS. accelerator, brake and clutch al work but steering wheel doesnt work at all. I have tried re-installing the profiler software and even tried it with no profiler but no joy.

Does anyone know what could be wrong?

It was working on my old computer which was also windows xp sp2, but i havent got it working on my new one.
Also when installing the profiler and where you have to test all the buttons to see if they are working it isn't even recognizing the steering, all other buttons work though.

Is my wheel stuffed? It's being used less than 1 hour...
Does the wheel do the recalibration routine (rotating fully left, then right)? The steering wheel will not be active until it has done this self-check, which is only possible if the power is connected.

buttons steer rather than axis steer? it's a button near the top of the controls menue.
Hi, thanks for your help. I thought at first that the power plug wasn't in properly, so I double checked and it was fine, the wheel wasn't doing the calibration routine when plugged in.

I used button steer for awhile then i thought that that is pointless, i bought the wheel to steer with the fricken wheel lol.

Then I mucked around with my usb hub settings and it recognized the wheel and did the calibration thing, then i re-installed the profiler and re-booted the comp, it worked!

I don't even know what i changed but its working so i wont touch anything!
Lol. now another issue.

all the axis are working but it seems whenever i crash and restart the steering wheel centre is set to like half lock. and it vibrates like hell nearly shaking it off the desk as well.

seems one problem after another.

Reduce your force feedback strength to 105% in the settings. Check to see whether the wheel rotation setting in control panel ,matches with the one specified in LFS. Also make sure calibration lock is on.

Thanks mate. It's all sorted now.

Out of interest, which button do you guys set your reverse too? and which button for handbrake?
Button? How about the reverse gear slot on your H-gate shifter (pushing the stick down when shifting into 6th = reverse gear)?
I was going to do that but some of the cars are 6 speed and i change cars quite a bit.

I guess i could chop and change all the time its not to hard to change them.
I haven't yet managed to accidentally shift into reverse when going to 6th, so I don't see a problem in that.

Read Androids previous post - you have to push down with the G25 for rev, it doesn't replace 6th - it's in addition to it.

Yeah, the H-Shifter actually has 7 positions. Maybe it's time to read the G25 user manual
Hmm where is that embarassed smiley? Well that clears that up nicely.
Cheers.

Funny thing is I read the manual.

105%??????????
I found it is easier to do drifting and stuff with 35%!!!!!!!
Any more than that and they said you can't use the G25 hardly at all (because you would get soar arms)
And cause damage

In your game controller settings it should be 105%, in LFS you can use any value you like. I use about 20%.

oh k... In LFS I use 35%

...?!

I'm not exactly superhuman in strength and i use 101% / 120%

My G25 gets a bit hot, but i can't see it's damaging it...
I prefer 30-50% in LFS. The G25 isn't *that* strong and apart from really long races the difference between that and 100%+ is pretty negligible, but if you set the forces to so high the consequence is that the forces max out pretty quickly, removing any fidelity from the higher force regions. You feel bumps and small variations a bit better with high FF, but everything above "small bump" seems to translate to full left or full right
I tried a low FF setting and hated it, maybe its because my real life car does not have power steering and i am used to using a bit of force but i prefer at least 105%.

Up until last night I have been playing on 720 degrees steering, i deided to try it on 360 and it was incredibly easy to drift (i mean better than my usual crap attempts).

However i decided to set it back on 720 as 360 is hardly realistic right? i'm still unsure i found a lot of old threads on this and advice was conflitcing, so i will leave it down to personal preference.

what do the top racers/drifters use in there settings? (if they even tell anyone).

Usually around 200-270 lock, they also use the clutch pedal as a brake.
